Odd move for Tauchman (meaning putting him on the opening day roster) but my gut tells me its because they ended up wanting to carry both Voit/Bird. Then with Hicks presumably missing a short term amount of time you can just dump Tauchman when he gets back no harm no foul. Maybe I am missing something.

Dont know much about Tauchman but it looks like he had some solid numbers in the PCL the last two years but that is an offensively fueled league with high offensive numbers across the board. Will be interesting to see how he fairs at Scranton.

Tyler Wade has been optioned to triple A. Surprising move, I thought he did enough in spring training to make the team. I have lots of mixed emotions about this trade for such a minor deal. I liked Diehl. I like what I've read about Tauchman and see that he's hit everywhere he's been except MLB in just a bit more that a small sample. But it's really two small samples with only one of those being really HORRIBLE. He has a great defensive rep., and potentially strong left handed line drive bat that could take advantage of the stadium. I was happy for Wade because he appeared to be getting one more chance that I would love to see him get. Now, he's been showcased and will likely be ticketed for trade. Bad for him, good for Estrada, perhaps??? Tauchman will probably be back in the minors once Hicks is healthy. I'm guessing Cashman doesn't want Stanton playing everyday in LF and trust a legit OF defensively, like Tauchman, more than Wade.

That little bald-headed guy being moved over to center has other ramifications, doesn’t it?...

‘Blindsided’ Tyler Wade is not happy about his Yankees demotion
Tyler Wade didn’t disguise his feelings when told by Aaron Boone on Sunday morning that he wasn’t making the Yankees’ 25-man roster.
“Very disappointing. It blindsided me,’’ said Wade, who lost out to outfielder Mike Tauchman, who was acquired from the Rockies on Saturday for lefty reliever Phillip Diehl. “I did everything they asked me to do this spring and I played well and now my defense isn’t good enough.’’
“I did everything I possibly could do to show I belong in the big leagues,’’ said Wade who went 1-for-3 in Sunday’s 5-3 win over the Twins at CenturyLink Sports Complex and is hitting .320 (16-for-50) with a .358 on-base percentage in 19 games. “I know I can play the outfield.’’

Understandable that he feels that way, but unprofessional to say do. Bye, Tyler. Cashman is probably trying to accommodate your .158-hitting ass at this moment by trading you somewhere where you’ll be on the MBL roster. And that’s coming from me. I’ve been a supportive fan for 4 years, perhaps more...

I’ve been a supportive fan for 4 years, perhaps more... I would have reacted much the same. For two years, Wade has been told that he just needs to hit. Now, he hits and is told he needs to improve his defense. Not an unreasonable reaction. I thought he did enough to make the roster. Especially, since he is able to play anywhere in the outfield or infield other than pitcher and catcher.

I agree with Rizz, I think they didnt do right by Wade here. They traded for some outside guy at the 11th hour of Spring, who has never hit at the Major League level and didnt hit a lick in ST either (his strong MiLB numbers came in the PCL so they have to be taken with a grain of salt). There may be a broader view plan here that we arent privy to but I dont get it and think Wade is fully justified to feel like he got the shaft.

I agree with his reaction, but I don’t feel he should have articulated it through the press. He should have communicated directly with team officials.
Since Wade is a good infield defender, my belief is the the concern is his outfield defense not being good enough to back up Gardner in CF.
Logically, unless Tauchman shows tremendous skills, including a surprising bat, Wade returns to the team upon Hicks return. Let’s drop our ego a notch and be patient, Tyler...

I think they wanted someone who could play centerfield too and Tauchman has more experience there so they went with him.
