WE really do not understand this semi-negative talk about Torreyes = He can play (and has) 3B, SS & 2B and he has an infectious GREAT Attitude. WE really do not understand the talk about possibly trading him (not the first time on this board = see prior Posts)???!!! Keep Andujar as our regular 3B, DIDI at SS, Torres at 2B; with Torreyes and Drury as INF Backup's (concerned about Drury's Vision Problem???!!!). Drury could also back-up Austin at 1B until Bird gets back (if Bird ever does on a regular basis???!!!). To trade Torreyes would = A HUGE REGRET!!! For one cannot teach Attitude. As for Torreyes being like an 'Singles Hitter'= GREAT. For to score runs (besides Homers) we need runners on base. Tequila & I are starting a TORREYES Fan Club. Who's being negative? It's a great accomplishment to be a qualified MLB bench player. There are fewer of them than there are starters. I have no issues with him on the bench, unless we can put a better player there... Torreyes has seriously won me over during the past year. For a long time I saw him as just an expendable weak hitting bench guy who could easily be replaced by a Tyler Wade or whoever else but he really has proven how valuable he is and what an amazing personality he is for this team. His versatility on defense, the fact that he can put a bat on literally any ball pitched, can sit for days at a time and step in when called upon without missing a beat and with a smile on his face, and just the dynamic you can see he has with guys like Judge and others. Ive become a big fan...he is perfect in the role carved out for him by the Yankees. With all that being said, I also wouldnt be surprised if he is a victim of crowding out on this roster as time goes on.

Liking him doesn't make him a good player, but I always have to soften that with the reality that if he was a really good player, he wouldn't be on the bench. In a pinch, I would rather have a player with a great attitude and mediocre talent come off the bench than a player with starter talent and a crappy attitude. The crappy attitude guy won't last...With the money he's making, he should be able to do something to get rid of that little birth mark, or mole, or whatever that is, or else something to install a full mustache to cover it up...

We should see him in September, if not before...With German here we're pretty well protected on the first line of defense...Then we have Adams and...it's too much...look out for the future...

With Gardner hitting .198; Walker .188; Hicks .224...Do you all think, that they will be around by and/or after the Mid-Season Trading Deadline?
With Frazier coming back along with Bird & Drury, something has to give.
WE would (at this point) trade Gardner (getting old, really slowly down, injury prone, low BA, etc.) plus Walker (low BA and cannot bunt/hit to the opposite field when the shift is on = reminds US of Tex; and trade Hicks (Frazier brings a better bat, more energy and passion).
Our outfield would be Frazier CF, Stanton LF and Judge RF with a PROSPECT as our 4th outfielder.
Our infield Andujar 3B; Didi SS; Torres 2B; Bird 1B...with Toe, Drury & Tyler Austin as infield back-up.
We could get some Prospects for Gardner/Hicks; If we could trade Walker, well or maybe he is like 'Toys R' Us' = just cut our losses.
What do you all think?

Can see Drury replacing Walker in the near future though if hes going well at AAA and Walker cant get it going. Gardner is a much tougher case. I think he needs to be looking over his shoulder at Frazier but Im not sure that hes not just mired in a prolonged slump right now. He started off the year well (had an OBP pushing .400 through first few weeks) but then hit the skids hard (hasnt done a damn thing for the last few weeks). Kind of the tale of two stretches. The other thing with Gardner is that hes a veteran leader on this roster and even when hes going bad he tends to grind at bats / see a lot of pitches (valuable that doesnt get reflected in stats) and is still an elite OF defender. Hicks will probably stay around too but Frazier may be able to force their hands if he rakes at AAA. He has been hitting the ball hard down there so far as I can tell but he leaves a bit to be desired in the OF defensively so I dont know that the Yanks would run him out there in CF with regularity.

The time to trade Gardner is not when he is batting.125 in his last 50+ at bats. He had one his best seasons last year, and possibly could have brought back something worthwhile in the off-season. The reality is he has a career OPS+ of 99, great speed without being more than an average threat to steal, but still a superb defensive outfielder and he has the ability to grind at bats. At 34 years old and turning 35 in August, he is arguably worth more to the Yankees down the stretch than a potential bargaining piece. Right now, this team should be allowed to let its mojo play out this streak. Not the time to change the chemistry.
Cashman's Guy is a switch hitter who can play all three outfield positions. Amazing arm and athlete who is about to turn 29 years old. Still waiting on that break out season offensively. He may hold more trade value. Frazier and Gardner would make a nice platoon, as righty and lefty, though both can hit same side pitching.

Talk of mid-season trades is so very premature at this point...For instance, let's take Gardner. He's 23 for 114 (.202), and a notorious streak hitter. If he goes on a little binge and gets say, 18 hits in his next 50 AB, he's 41 for 164 and up to .250. It happens all the time. It's baseball. In fact, a 4 for 4 tomorrow would do amazing things, at 27 for 118 he jumps to .229, at .027 rise in a single day. Too early to get all freaked out about any one.
Walker, at 16 for 88 (.172) has admittedly been a test of patience, but with only 88 AB so far, he could rise even faster. In fact, the past few days he's been stinging the ball better and has also been taking his walks. Perhaps his adjustment to NY is beginning to take shape.
I still wonder which Hicks is the real Hicks, and until I see more of first half of 2017 Hicks, I'll have my doubts that he's ever coming back. I like Hick's approach at the plate better (works the count, draws BB)since he had his hot run last year, but the consistency hasn't returned. Yet, again...so few at bats, especially for him after missing time with an(other) injury. The injury bug is a bit of a concern with Hicks to me...
I can see Drury replacing someone, but the question is whom? There is Walker, Torreyes, and even Andujar (not taking many pitches, and like many above him in this post, so few at bats to establish who he really is)...Time will tell...You have to love the options the team has, and speaking of options...of course Andujar has them...so don't count out a demotion, even if it's only to play for time to make a trade...

Drury will stay @ AAA, I guess there is no room for him in the Bronx. Probably a good choice in the sense that this will allow for an extended "rehab" time to assess if he is able to fully recover and contribute. It will delay an inevitable decision. If Drury looks like he's fully healthy, then I would think it becomes a choice between him, Torreyes, and Walker. Someone will have to go... All of this reminded me to check in on Tyler Wade. He's only hitting .219/.296/.288 in AAA...I wonder what happened to the lad that came into spring camp with dreams of an Albert Pujols-induced turn-around to his career? Sort of sad story at this point...
