The yankees had a long run of wins where we won by one run, not a dominant performance but luck as much as anything (or pitching). If we had not had that long streak we would have been a .500 team and probably not made the play offs at all. We weren't a very good team offensively last year - we had one long winning streak where we won a lot of close games. Most of the year we were not that good. They were 46-27 for a .630 winning percentage after the asb... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 46-17 = 29. So we were 29-27 except for the 17 game streak. Had we performed during that streak as we did the rest of the period we would have been about 38-35. And we performed how well in the first half of the season (I am not sure why we ignore that period)? We had one long winning streak (with a lot of close games). Other than that we were mediocre. For a team that spent fortunes.

I never wanted Giambi, whom I saw as a DH in waiting. But, the Yankees paid Giambi like a five tool player. Having said that, Giambi put up some numbers in Pinstripes, averaging .260/.404/.521/.925 during his tenure. If Gallo put up those numbers, we would be ecstatic. True not the greatest numbers but ones you think Gallo could get to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Gallo has only hit over .225 one time in his big league career. I don't think there's any reason to think he could approach Giambi numbers.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The point is we were a mediocre team except for 10 percent of the season, and would not have even made the play offs except a very unusual streak which is hard to explain by statistics (we did not dominate even during that period, we won lots of very close games despite a lack of speed or defense that might logically explain that).

Of course we only have one season to judge that by. It would be interesting to know why the Yankees resigned him they obviously see something they like.

Atlanta won 88 games during the regular season, seven more losses and they would have been a .500 team, yet they won the World Series. By your logic, Atlanta was an even more mediocre team than the Yankees, except they won the World Series.

I thought we extended his contract. Thanks for correcting me, if that is what occurred. To me adding a year to a contract is resigning although I guess technically its not. Regardless of that, he should not be on this team.

One could say exactly the same about the Braves, who were even more of a mediocre team and who were even more lucky to be in the playoffs, except they got hot during a short stretch, which just happened to be the playoffs and won the World Series.

I thought I had read in a thread here that they had extended his contract. Probably they just did not trade him as I had hoped.
