Giving up 3 runs in 3 innings of work is not good

The 101 was a surprise. I was about to think maybe we needed a new closer… You and Russ were so spoiled by Mariano Rivera, now you know how every other team feels. Chapman is one of the top closers in MLB, year in and year out. He keeps himself in excellent shape and continues to work on his craft, adding a slider and a forkball. When his mechanics are off, he will lose command of the strike zone and velocity. And, he's easier to hit in a big spot when the opposition knows whether a fastball or an offspeed pitch is coming - a la the Astros and the Red Sox. Mariano let Sandy Alomar beat him in 1997. Threw the ball away against Arizona in the WS in 2001. Even the best ever is human. chapman walks too many people for a closer to me. And he cost too much for what he produces.

Have you compared other teams’ closers the last five years for their walk to strikeout ratio, their save percentages, and what they make per season? If not, I would surmise you don’t have a realistic view of closers, especially since you didn’t know who Chad Green was two days ago. As Inger stated, he’s only been a key Yankee reliever for seven years.

Chapman's walked 4 guys in 8 games, 3 of those in the one nightmare outing that he had this season. In the other 7 games, he's walked 1 and given up 0 runs. His WIP is under 1 and his batting avg. against is .091. Think about that, the league is hitting .091 against Chapman. I'm not his biggest fan, but with the exception of one game, he's pitched well.
