Rizzo not at his best tonight on that play or on the bases. That was terrible. What was he thinking? Probably, "It will take a perfect throw to get me." And, it turned out it was.

That's a pretty good category: Players who should have never worn Pinstripes.

Who was the other big name pitchers George went after in the 1970s that were past their prime? Don Gullett was one, but he had worth. Rawley Eastwick is one who should not have been in a Yankee uniform, but there was another during that time, too, whose name escapes me.

Gullett was only 26 when the Yankees got him, but injuries did him in or he would have been outstanding. Remember Britt Burns?. Got him from the White Sox and he never pitched an inning.

Finally, Andy Messersmith! That was a waste. To a lesser extent, Ken Holtzman, too.
Butch Hobson! Freaking iron glove Red Sox should have never been in Pinstripes!

I didn't realize he was that young...but to a nine year old... I do not recall Britt Burns.

The Hobson acquisition gave me projectile vomiting for his entire time in uniform… I remember one season he fielded .899 with the Sox, and kept his job…
