That really surprises me Rizz. Of course you would have been pretty young at that time, and the Orange Bowl would have been on national TV. They called him Miracle Mike for his ability to pull out improbable wins in the Charlie McClendon era. Although I hasten to add that the Nittany Lions won that particular game 16-9. Or, as he as referred to in the South: Cholly Mac. I don't ever recall watching any college football games unless my brother Michael was in the house, which was not often at that time. My brother Edward hated sports and my sister confused baseball, basketball, and football teams, and still does. Older siblings controlled the three channels until they left the house to go to college after 1975 and 1976. Those dates began my television channel control days. Big Red Machine, Steel Curtain, Rick Barry and Elvin Hayes. After hearing the TV tales of woe from you and Inger, I guess I didn't realize how easy I had it being the oldest and having parents who didn't care much about what was on TV. I can't think of a single instance where I didn't watch whatever I wanted. Of course it wasn't like I was watching "Playboy After Dark" or anything.

Does every team the Yankees play have a sidearm guy in the pen? Where is our sidewinder? I've been wondering myself. The Yankees haven't had many sidewinders over the years.

Last one we had was Darren O'Day if I remember correctly. Oh, I had suppressed that. Back to therapy...

My two older brothers, Bobby and Michael were and still are sports fanatics, but they were in college after 1967 and 1969. The sports gene was somehow skipped for the middle brother and sister.

I liked him too, in part because he had the sidearm distinction, in part because he was pretty reliable, in part because he had a cool name, and in part because he had that constant Matt Kuchar-style smile on his face.

Always like a golf reference. Forever the face of a 15 year old.
