Because he played shortstop for one game? If they wanted to rest Rizzo, then let DJ play first and DH Carpenter. |

Ride the hot streak and rest later, but the Yankees don't believe in playing the hot hand and I read somewhere that these rest days are planned well in advance and the player knows it, so it doesn't even matter how well he's swinging the bat. |
