I don't understand this move unless there's more starting pitching help coming. Bader is in a walking boot right now with plantar fascistic. I wouldn't do the trade if he was completely healthy.

Good luck to Joey Gallo, at least you weren’t clueless like Sandwich about your play. You are one heck of an outfielder and a good guy who cares. Welcome World Beeter! He really landed on his feet getting traded to the Dodgers. I sincerely hope he does well for them, at least up until such time as the Dodgers play the Yankees in the World Series. What I most emphatically do not want is for Joey Gallo to hit a seventh game home run that wins it for LA. If that happens I think it behooves us to commit mass suicide. I am so confident that will not occur, it is my responsibility to purchase the Kool-aid.

Maybe the Cardinals will provide him more than two runs a start. Does anyone else have questions about this trade? How does the move improve this team?

Maybe the Cardinals will provide him more than two runs a start. Does anyone else have questions about this trade? How does the move improve this team? The only thing I can come up with is that the Yankees' consistently poor performance when Montgomery was pitching became an issue for the front office. In 51 starts over the past two years, Monty is only 9-10. While it isn't mostly his fault that the record is so poor, the bottom line is that for whatever reason the Yankees would not hit when he was on the mound in a way that wasn't true for any other pitcher. But the move doesn't make any sense by any traditional measure. It appears to weaken the starting pitching without adding any great value to the outfield. Especially since Bader won't even play for at least a month according to Cashman.

Murti deserves a raise just for that line.

Murti deserves a raise just for that line. Or to be battered, busted, and belted…

Montgomery apparently did not want to go so this is even more bizarre

I don't know, the Phillies got David Robertson for a guy named Ben Brown, who is a 22-year old pitching in High A ball. Their seventh-ranked prospect. That doesn't sound like something the Yanks couldn't have matched.
It would have made more sense to trade Monty for D-Rob than for Bader (although Monty for D-Rob wouldn't have made much sense either.)
Maybe Cashman got confused and thought he was getting Hader rather than Bader. And now he's too embarrassed to admit it. By Jove, I think I've gotten to the bottom of this.

Cashman explained - cryptically as always - that he believes the Monty move improves the Yankees for October; however, he may have just weakened an already sputtering rotation. He acknowledged the move is for down the road, where this club will likely be (in Houston) when it loses home field advantage and exhausts its bullpen from four inning starts. Monty has arguably been the most consistent Yankee starter the last calendar year. Not flashy, just steady. Adding Montas made sense to bolster the starting five. Subtracting Monty undid that support.

Subtracting Monty undid that support. Agreed. I don't know how the Monty move improves the Yankees for October like Cashman says. There's a decent chance just playing the law of pitcher injuries that one of our top 4 gets hurt and then we'll be up shits creek without a paddle for the playoffs. All for what? A gimpy Hader who's not a difference maker? Judge is fine in CF. You don't want Hader in there which means Carpenter will have to sit out as Stanton takes the DH spot.
