I'd love to dream, but my fear is the Yanks have too many self-inflicting barriers that will ultimately not push them to pursue Soto. I hope I am wrong, as there isn't an asset in the Yankee organization I wouldn't move to do it, including Lonn and Randy's personal chefs. However there are better farm systems around MLB than what NYY has to offer as well. I chuckled reading the end of Rosenthal's article, mentioning that the worry is Soto's contract gets too big that WAS can't build around him, oh those poor owners - maybe Manfred can grab yet another network to stream games and up the revenue.

The Yankees are not trading Volpe for a less than half-season rental, and Soto has already placed himself outside of Hal's willingness to spend. Actually, I take that back. Soto is under team control until 2024. So, the Yankees should try to get him, but I still don't know if they would be willing to give up Volpe. It would take a lot more than Volpe to get Soto. If he could be gotten for a package based around Volpe I'd do that in a second. Well, yes. Of course it would be a package… Note all that Soto is not having his best season as we speak…

Soto isn't a free agent until after the 2024 season, so if you trade for him now, you get two years at arbitration cost for 4 or to 5 great prospects, plus you will eventually have to pay him 30+ million per season to keep him long term. That price tag alone will knock a majority of the teams out of contention.

The Nationals have long held the position that they would not be open to trading Soto, their 23-year-old superstar, who is already firmly listed among the best hitters in baseball. The Nationals have some time to make a decision, as Soto is under team control for another two seasons beyond this one. As of right now, however, the team is among the worst in baseball, and their farm system continues to be understocked.
Get it done now Cash!!!!

I cannot see this Yankee front office emptying the farm to pay Soto, especially since they may not resign Judge either.

Richie would have loved to drive that baby. But that would have seem r like a copy of Ferris Bueller. I guess maybe Potts would have had to drive…

They can have Torres, Hicks, Gallo and 3 of our top 20 prospects for Soto. Not Volpe or the Martian.
Hal Steinbrenner isn't like his old man, and Brian Cashman has been more successful with trades than free agency. But the New York Yankees need to take their old approach if they want to be at the top of the world again.
There's no bigger market than NYC. There's no team that needs Soto more than the Yankees. Even if that means losing Aaron Judge, how would you pass on a left-handed, all-time great hitter who also happens to be six years younger? Also, they have the prospects to make it work.

When can I drive Volpe, Jasson, Peraza, and co. to DC? I'll fill up the tank now.

MLB Trade Rumors: The only realistic destinations for Juan Soto
I heard on Buster Olney's podcast that it would likely take at least four A level prospects (not like AA or AAA but Grade A - like eggs) to land Soto in a trade. There is no way in this universe that the Yankees would ever sign a single player for half a billion dollars. One injury, one car wreck, one arrest warrant, one overdose, etc. No way Soto is ever in Pinstripes as long as Hal and CouponMan are operating in The Bronx. Now, the Yankees may want to think about signing someone like Devers, who the Red Sox appear to be allowing to walk in free agency. Devers is a hit machine with pop and he's only two years older than Soto, and I doubt he'll reject the contact Judge was offered.

Think about, if the Yankees traded for Soto, it would take over 800 million to sign him and Judge to extensions and we know that isn't going to happen. The Yankees don't need Soto to win the World Series, it wouldn't hurt, but they don't need him. If they just trade a couple of prospects for Luis Castillo and find an improvement in LF, I'd be happy.
