I agree with you CHI, but Soto won't be a FA for a few years so the Yankees could have him just in case Judge bolts for a new team which I think he will.

Soto would be terrific insurance in case Judge decides to walk. They don't have to sign both of them necessarily. Its tough, but for the record I am for trading the farm for Soto. You get an MVP type player for at least 2.5 years and that opportunity doesn't come around often. I don't think Hal and Cashman will go for it though.

I’d trade the farm and send a boatload of cash along with it. Maybe give up Hal’s mansion and put his ass in a mobile home park…I wanna learn the Soto Shuffle. I want him to make traffic and clear out the existing traffic… We don’t know if Judge is going to keep showing up healthy by the time the kid is looking for his next contract. We don’t know if the Orioles will be coming for us. If an asteroid is going to wipe the planet out. But we do know that Soto is a damned good talent…

Zero chance Hal signs both Soto and Judge, so we are eventually talking about one or the other for the long term. Say we get Soto, you get him for 2 1/2 seasons, 3 postseasons, paired with Judge for this playoff only potentially, maybe the next two as well if you sign Judge this winter. Or let Judge walk and look to put the eggs all in signing Soto - with the understanding he and Boras are gonna go to free agency in 2025 to top contract records for years, AAV and total $. Interesting times.
My $ is on Padres trading for Soto if he's dealt, just got that hunch.
Interesting point by Boras this morning on Sherman/Heyman podcast, why would Nats ownership trade Soto before they sell the team? Which they are reportedly doing. Wouldn't you want that "Beachfront Ocean View" when trying to sell? I'd imagine a bidder would prefer to buy the Nats with Soto attached and then get to decide to build around or trade.

Only question I have as the deadline approaches is: Is Joey Gallo still on our roster?

Only question I have as the deadline approaches is: Is Joey Gallo still on our roster? Obviously if Carpenter keeps this up you have to play him but Gallo does have way better defense which we have seen a couple times has actually won the Yankees games this year. I'm not sure if you can have all of Hicks Gallo MG and Carpenter on a playoff roster though. It's what 12 pitchers usually? Sometimes 13. So at most it's your 9 position player starters (including dh) and 4 bench? Backup catcher already takes up one spot. So that's uh... 1B Rizzo 2B Torres SS IKF 3B Donaldson/DJ OF Judge, Stanton Catcher Backup Catcher DH Carpenter That's already 10 of 12 or 13. So that leaves MG/Hicks/Gallo/Wade/Locastro for two or three spots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Nationals made the decision to field offers for Soto last weekend after the young slugger turned down a 15-year, $440 million contract. From a talent perspective, all 29 other MLB teams should be interested in two-time All-Star.
In reality though, only a select number of organizations can even entertain the idea of acquiring Soto from a financial and prospect perspective.
According to USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale, seven teams have already made preliminary offers.
They are the Yankees and Mariners in the American League and the Mets, Cardinals, Dodgers, Padres and Giants in the National League.
It is important to note that this doesn't mean other teams aren't involved or won't be getting in the mix soon.
It's not surprising to see these franchises listed though, as all are in playoff contention and all except the Mariners are in the top half of the league in payroll.
The 2022 MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, August 2. For now, Soto will suit up for the Nationals this weekend in Arizona.

Four or five of your best prospects then you'll have to eventually give Soto a half a billion to resign.
