Scouting Report on Luis Garcia from Reddit:
Today the yanks are going to Houston for one game. They are going to face righty Luis Garcia. He has a 3.68 ERA over 13 starts. Here are some nuggets about Garcia: most of the time he will throw a Fastball and a Cutter. against lefties he will throw a little bit less of the cutter and more Curveballs. He also likes to sprinkle in some of his Changeups against lefties as well. Against righties that Cruveball changes into a slider, which you would expect from a righty pitcher.
If you are looking at counts you can see some tendencies with Garcia. 3-0? Green Light, 12 of 16 Pitches have been in the zone, and its very likely gonna be the fastball. 3-2? Green Light, will throw something into the zone very likely as well. Cutter and Fastball on this count 0-2? Righties will be pitched out of the Zone with the Cutter most likely. Lefties will see more pitches in the strikezone here.
Garcia is pretty good, and his K% and BB% show that. Not as many balls in play as these past few nights. It also reflects on his expected ERA, his ERA of 3.68 is equal to his xERA, which also sits at 3.68.
One oddity for Garcia with his Cutter: lefties do not hit that thing: 1 hit against his cutter. Righties however do get hits: 11 hits against the cutter. His FB gets hit the most. 50 % of his hits against righties, and 70% ! of hits allowed against lefties.
His June hasnt been great so far. 4.84 ERA with at least 2 runs allowed in every game.
Now to the most obvious part about garcia: his windup. You might have seen it. With bases empty he does one of the longest windups i have ever seen. That results in him being one of the slowest pitchers in the league with bases empty. With runners on however, he will abandon that windup and just pitch normal. Now heres the kicker: His allowed OPS goes down .225 with runners on. So he is a better pitcher with runners on. For comparison: both Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole's allowed OPS with runners on goes up. So i dont know why garcia still does the windup with empty bases. But obviously nobody tell Houston. |
