Why pitch to a guy that owns you when there is a base open? Devers is responsible for all five of the Red Sox runs tonight. Devers went down and got that second home run. It wasn't that bad of a pitch. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to other ball players. Let someone else try to hurt you with two outs and a base open. Seems like an easy decision to me. Especially with a lefty who torches right-handed pitchers. I have no problem blaming both Cole and Boone. Cole for being owned so totally by any player and Boone for not recognizing it. But I am very disappointed in Cole and his performance at Fenway. I haven't forgotten last year's post season disaster. Three runs in two innings. He has a lot to prove on that issue. On paper, sure it makes sense to walk Devers but how many mangers would have done it? 5th inning of a game in July, with your ace on the mound, have you ever seen a manger intentionally load the bases because you're scared of a certain hitter? Right or wrong, managers don't treat their #1 starters like that. They expect them to pitch like the ace they are supposed to be.

Devers is now 0-7 against Peralta. Devers is human against lefties, and he is a Hall of Famer against righties.

Devers is now 0-7 against Peralta. That ball was hit hard too, just not in the air.

Right or wrong, managers don't treat their #1 starters like that. They expect them to pitch like the ace they are supposed to be. Of course. Good managers do it all the time. The National League, before the DH, did it constantly to avoid the number eight hitter to get to the pitcher in the middle innings. Devers has 16 home runs against the Yankees! He wears out all right-handed pitching, especially Cole for whatever reason. Go with the right-handed pitcher against the right-handed batter, which Cole has a decided edge against. Protect the lead and not pitch to the guy who already hit a home run this game against Cole and a homer every four at bats off Cole. To me, there is no question, which is why I called for it before Devers entered the box. These guys are human. No macho decision-making. Good managers make that call.

How fortunate are we to have King doing the job we envisioned Lasagna doing and Holmes replacing Chapman?…

The thing that ultimately bothers me about Cole is that he has pitched 42 innings and allowed 24 runs against Boston since joining the Yankees. That's just unacceptable.

How fortunate are we to have King doing the job we envisioned Lasagna doing and Holmes replacing Chapman?… Another good job by King. Remember "Sky King?"

Gallo drag bunt. Good effort even though it didn't work.

A lot of these Sox bullpen pitchers are not familiar names to me.

I think the last Yankee I saw drag bunt was Mickey Rivers.

I think the last Yankee I saw drag bunt was Mickey Rivers. Good memory. Mantle was an excellent drag bunter.
