Would have kept King in the 8th to get the last out. Would have let Holmes start fresh in the 9th and go extra if needed. Total piss down the legs of guys that have not been is those spots before.

Before this inning began, I just kept thinking how Clarke Schmidt would be perfect to finish this game. Why isn't he up here instead of Abreu who really only mops up and Sears?

Donaldson really screwed this one up. Like I said the whole team seems to be playing this series like they are barely leading the division. I dunno why there are so many nerves and stupid mistakes. You are 15 games up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Donaldson really screwed this one up. And, Wandy gave up three hits in less than an inning and fell behind the one lefty he finally got to face.

Good post from someone on reddit:
This game doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things, but it still makes me furious that they didn't step on Boston's throat when they should have easily finished that one off.
1. Rizzo's dumb steal attempt is the only reason the Red Sox even had a chance to come back. Let Stanton and Donaldson put the game away against a struggling Diekman, this isn't rocket science. 2. Change up city from Peralta/Trevino to guys with no power. Did you not see them blatantly sitting on it hitter after hitter? If you float a change up into the zone when you haven't set it up, you make it easy for a guy to just slash a ball on a line or on the ground because it's just a BP fastball. 3. The 2-0 get me over fastball to Verdugo. One of the dumbest pitch sequences I have ever seen. The guy spit on two tough sinkers like he was looking for it all the way. Don't just give in to him with the winning run at second base, when he's OBVIOUSLY sitting on it. Throw a slider or a change up there. This isn't that difficult.
Tonight was a team that took things for granted and gave away an easy win against a team they could have put away for good probably with a win there. Hard to fathom that they can just let down there and give away the game.

Summarizes things pretty well.

Even if Schmidt was here, I don't see Boone using him over Peralta in that situation. Schmidt has a starter's repertoire and can go multiple innings during an extra inning game. If he gets in trouble, then Peralta is in his usual role, which is not closing but putting out a fire not of his making. Of course, you're right, with Ba-Boone nothing surprises me. To be fair to Boone, in this particular game, I didn't really object to his pitching moves until Wandy, who was going to see a ton of right-handed hitters. It would have been a good time to baptize Sears with a clean inning. A guy who throws strikes to everyone.

Summarizes things pretty well. Good post other than I don't think the difference between 15 and 17 games is that much of a deal. The other thing is with every other division being terrible the Yankees might be facing the Red Sox in the division series anyway whether they win the division by 1 game or 20.
