Scouting report on Heasley and some blurbs on Trade deadline targets from reddit:
I will keep it short with Heasley today, and instead will take a longer look at some Pitchers that the yankees may acquire in the coming days. This (sadly) does not include Luis Castillo after the Deal between the Mariners and the Reds.
some nuggets about Heasley:
He throws a 4sm Fastball (45%), Changeup (20%), Curveball (20%) and also some Slider and Sinkers. His 4sm moves slightly more than average and his Curveball has a lot of drop. Nothing special about the other pitches in regards to movement.
All his Pitches are also very slightly below league average. Nothing dramatic though, which is interisting considering his 5.50 ERA.
If you look at his Baseball Savant Page, it almost looks like a Kris Bubic duplicate: lots and lots of dark blue.
His last starts have been "interisting". 3.2 IP and 7 ER, 6.0 IP and 1 ER, 1.1 IP and 5 ER. I think its safe to say that the yanks "should" hit this guy.
Overall nothing really standing out about Heasely. If the yanks cant hit em idk what funny buisness they have (cant hit bad youngsters i guess).
Now lets get to the fun part about the weekend: the Trade Deadline (actually Tuesday 4pm).
I will make a quick rundown of the pitchers that have been linked to the yankees and also such that have been suggested from Fans and "questionable" reporters.
Positive Run Value = Bad, Negative Run Value = Good.
Frankie Montas:
Pitch Mix: 4sm (30% Usage, +2 Run Value) Splitter (30%,-2), Sinker (20%,+1), Slider (15%,-4) and Cutter (5%,-5)
ERA: 3.18 (104.2 IP), WHIP: 1.127
Control left: 1.5 (2024 Free Agent)
Did a breakdown on him, obviously one of the best pitchers left available after Castillo is off the Market. He did have a injury scare earlier this month. Was eased back in and held the astros to 2 ER his last time out in 5.0 IP. Has been great in his career outside of the Covid 2020 Season. Would be a great get for the Rotation next year as well.
Noah Syndergaard:
Pitch Mix: Sinker (25%, -11), Changeup (25%,+4), 4sm (20%,+1), Slider (20%,+1), Curveball(10%,-2)
ERA: 3.83 (80 IP), WHIP: 1.213
Control left: 0.5 (2023 Free Agent)
Syndergaard has been mentioned by multiple reporters as the yankees Number 3 target after Castillo and Montas. His Numbers look better than what i expected. And they are better than his expected stats and his underlying metrics suggest he should have worse stats. But Syndergaard would be an ok get if the asking Price for Montas should be too high (a la castillo). As a true Rental his worth is quite low. The only Problem: other contenders seem to be very interested as well, like the Blue Jays.
Jose Quintana:
Pitch Mix: 4sm (35%,-8), Curveball (25%,-7), Changeup (25%,+12), Sinker (15%,-2)
ERA: 3.50 (103 IP), WHIP: 1.272
Control left: 0.5 (2023 Free Agent)
Quintana has also been mentioned by multiple reporters. And more of them close to the yanks. So i would expect he is among the ones that we shouldnt be too shocked if they go after him. He has a very solid Season. I actually like Quintana a lot. His underlying stats are a bit better than Syndergaards and he has been very consistent this year, allowing more than 4 ER only once (at Coors). IF he would continue as he has all year, he would also be a solid get and is also worth even less than syndergaard according to the trade Charts.
Now we are getting into the Category where there havent been credible reports that the yanks are actually pursuing a trade (but nobody ever really knows who cashman is going after).
Carlos Rodon:
Pitch Mix: 4sm (60%, -12), Slider (25%, -4), Some Changeups (0) and Curveballs (0)
ERA: 3.18 (116.0 IP), WHIP: 1.121
Control Left: 1.5 (2024 Free Agent)
Nobody really knows if the Giants are trading him, though the Giants have been on a bad run as of late. If he is available he is even better than montas, in my opinion way better. He is affordable according to then value table but i guess if he is traded he is going to cost more than what the tables suggest. If i am being honest though: I dont think he gets traded.
Pablo Lopez:
Pitch Mix: 4sm (40%,-9), Changeup (35%,-8), Cutter (15%,0), Sinker (5%,+2), Curveball (5%,-1)
ERA: 3.03 (116 IP) WHIP: 1.043
Control Left: 2.5 (2025 Free Agent)
There have been Reports that the Marlins are listening one everybody exept Alcantara (sigh). Lopez would be the next best in their Rotation. With 2.5 Years left until he becomes a free Agent he would be a "long term" Acquisition. His stuff is great and the underlying numbers confirm that he is pretty good. The Asking Price is going to be pretty Steep though (a la Castillo, and maybe more). Would be a solid number 2 in the Rotation. Only concerning thing is that he has been getting worse as the year has progressed.
Tarik Skubal:
Pitch Mix: Slider (30 %,-4), 4sm (25%,+2), Sinker (20 %,-1), Changeup (15%,-2). Knuckle Curve (10%,+4)
ERA: 3.67 (112.2 IP) WHIP: 1.163
Control Left: 4.5 (2027 Free Agent)
I dont know if these reports are true, but the Tigers are supposedly listening on everybody, even Skubal. He, like Lopez, would be a long term Acquisition. He has the Potential to be true Ace. He is not there yet though, so i dont know how much of an Addition he would be towards a Championship run. But if you are able to get him i would get him regardless, Young talents like him shouldnt be on the Trade Market. And if they are, you should take advantage of it. Getting him means you have to go for one of the Cheaper other Options on the market though (Quintana Syndergaard) if you really want to get "reliable" Help this year.
There are even more Pitchers on the market, buit these are the ones i believe to be the most reported options and i wanted to look into them. Others include Aaron Civale, Zach Plesac or Jose Urquidy.
If it was me that had to make a deal, looking at this year and the next years i would go Rodon if available or Skubal + one of Qintana/Syndergaard. It is going to cost you, but you have support this year and at least next year. Montas is the target for most teams and is likely going to be overpaid for. If you win the Championship that would be worth it. If you dont win the Championship: you might have ruined your chances for the next 3-6 years depending on the package.

The Yanks are concerned about Judge's legs because he's seeing a lot of DH time. That said, that fly ball in the top of the first is a HR if Judge isn't out there in RF.
Does Donaldson ever get a day off?
I'd like to see Benintendi in the #2 spot, after DJ. That would put two high OBP guys in front of Judge, giving him more RBI chances.

I think MLBTR said the Astros were willing to trade their extra starters but they wouldn't trade here.

I didn't know Montas had an injury scare. Yea, he's coming back from shoulder inflammation.

Here we go. Hopefully better this time last time Yankees scored loads of run late and won 12-2 but Nestor gave up 8 hits over 5 innings before leaving with a 3-2 lead.

Wish I could have seen the Old Timers ceremonies but the extra innings package wouldn't show it.
