Scouting report on Gonzales from reddit:
While a certain Deadline is nearing the yanks still gotta get one game in. In that game they will face lefty Marco Gonzales. He has a 3.66 ERA over 113 Innings this year.
some nuggets about the guy:
Gonzales uses 4 Pitches: 4sm (40%), Changeup (35%), Cutter (20%), Curveball (15%). All his stuff is not really fast. The 4sm and Changeup are well below league average in velocity and the cutter and curve are slightly below league average.
He faces 80% righties. So most of the stats in usage come from that and they naturally look the same almost. Against lefties however, that changes quite a lot: 4sm is used at 60%, Change and Curve at 15% and Cutter at 10 %.
Now why does he only face righties? I have no idea, because Gonzales has "reverse-splits": allowed OPS against lefties sits at .839 and vs righties .760. So at least this year there really is no reason to put such a righty heavy lineup out there. And on his Career it doesnt really get much worse: allowed OPS vs RHB: .751, vs LHB: .728. So i guess he used to be better against lefties, but not that much tbh (ok after further research: he used to be nasty against lefties then started reverse-splitting in 2019 but had a phenomenal year against lefties last year and is now back to reverse-splitting). But thats also the reason im sitting here and not in the dugout making lineups.
His cutter is the only pitch of his that sits below league average, quite a bit though. All his other pitches are valued slightly above league average but nothing elite.
He has been in quite the rough stretch. He had back to back 5ER Outings before holding the Rangers to two in his last one. He also has given up at least 1 Earned Run in every outing this year. The longest outing was back in May in 7.1 Innings against the Astros. He usually sits somewhere between 6 and 7 Innings.
On our own side is a guy still pitching that shouldnt be there and hopefully makes his last outing as a starter for the yanks.
