its always one bad inning for Cole. Yep. But he can't do that in a post-season game against the other team's ace. exactly

Cole shuts the barn door after the horse has escaped.

Cole's worst starts this season were 1.2 innings against Detroit and 2.1 against Minnesota. Every other turn during the season, he has pitched into the sixth inning or deeper.

Cole shuts the barn door after the horse has escaped. , great expression. I don't know that it gets used much because not many people have barns anymore. My great grandmother was a farm girl born in 1878 and she used to use that and making hay while the sun shines and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn (about pitchers with no control!) I learned a lot of pastoral knowledge from her. Not sure how much good it's done, but it was fun.

Cole has five starts this season in which he has allowed zero runs. Verlander has six such starts. If it makes anyone feel better, Verlander gave up six runs on ten hits against Seattle this season. Verlander has been much more consistent, however, giving up only one run in seven starts. Cole has four one-run starts.

One of those two would make the Yankees the odds-on favorites for the ring. I feel like that was the goal yesterday too. Montas is good enough, but not that level. I still don't feel like the Yankees made that statement yesterday, while Houston got Yankee Killer Vasquez and also Mancini.
