That's under the Hal/Cashman remaining luxury tax threshold. We've got German; we had Chapman. Bauer may be able to strangle opponents in the fifth spot. That would free up a trade with Pittsburgh for a major league ready starter in Montas, plus Clarke Schmidt, Cabrera, and a minor leaguer for a left fielder in Reynolds. I expect Bauer is an untouchable at his point. And, who knows what mentality he will have moving forward, especially with the scrutiny he'd engender.

I would actually do that -- the protests would be furious, even though he has never been charged with anything -- but I agree with you that he is probably not signable. Whoever the ballsiest owner is I don't know, but it isn't Hal. The Old Man would have done it. Maybe Marge Schott. Calvin Griffith or Charlie Finley. But I can't see it happening. And seriously after this layoff and the added pressure plus the guy seems like an a-hole anyway, who knows what you would get? But it would definitely generate controversy at a very low cost.

“We want all 5 of your best prospects for Reynolds.”
But
“We’re only willing to pay Reynolds $12 mil a year.”
Ok, Pirates.

I can imagine I hear Marge Schott now standing next to Bauer on a TV interview and referring to him as “My pervert”… 😂

A baseball trade: The Phillies add a hard throwing lefty to their bullpen. Ex-Yankee prospect Donny Sands is part of the return going back to Detroit.
