Kasseb, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Kaseeb, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, Virginia, there is a Ben Rortvedt. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Ben Rortvedt! It would be as dreary as if there were no Kaseebs. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which Yankee fandom fills the world would be extinguished. Not believe in Ben Rortvedt! You might as well not believe in a healthy Severino! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the rosters on a mid summer night’s baseball Diamond to catch Rortvedt on the field, but even if you did not see Ben throwing down to second base, what would that prove? Nobody sees Rortvedt but that is no sign that there is no Rortvedt. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see Aaron Hicks dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Ben Rortvedt! Thank God! he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Kasseb, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of Yankee fans…

dude is always so happy, you can tell he loves the game. I hope Boone doesn't break his spirit by not playing him.

(RULE # 1 = Before you, CASH, make a trade; first give Top Prospects a chance with ample playing time = if they do not work out, only then consider a trade...)
Brian Cashman admits defeat in Yankees’ Frankie Montas trade
...Montas is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery and could miss the entire season. With the former Oakland Athletics’ star not living up to New York’s expectations, Cashman made his stance on the trade very clear, via USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
“Clearly, it hasn’t worked out at all,” Cashman said. “We didn’t really get anything out of it.”
Frankie Montas has made just eight starts for the Yankees. He holds a 1-3 record with an abysmal 6.35 ERA and a 33/15 K/BB ratio. Before being dealt to the Yankees, Montas made 19 starts for the A’s in 2022. While his 4-9 record isn’t all that impressive – Oakland wasn’t winning much anyways – Montas carried a much cleaner 3.18 ERA and a 109/28 K/BB ratio. Overall, Montas hasn’t looked like the same pitcher since coming to New York.
To acquire Montas, the Yankees gave up a slew of prospects including Ken Waldichuk. Waldichuk is now Oakland’s second-best prospect per MLB Pipeline.

TAMPA — As he tries to compete for the fifth spot in the Yankees’ rotation, Clarke Schmidt has a new weapon in his back pocket.
Schmidt spent the offseason adding a cutter to his arsenal, which he hopes can help him be more effective against left-handed hitters, regardless of what role he ends up in.
The new pitch came at the suggestion of the Yankees at the end of last season. Assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel and others sat down with Schmidt and told him that a cutter could help take him to the next level, especially against lefties, who have hit .297 with a .870 OPS against him in his big league career.
“We incorporated it and it kind of took off,” Schmidt said. “It was better than they expected at first. … It’s improved a ton.”
Because of the natural cut that Schmidt already had on his four-seam fastball, and its high spin rate, the Yankees thought learning a cutter might come easily for him.
The day after his meeting with Druschel, Schmidt watched an Instagram video from Trevor Bauer on how to throw a cutter. Using that as a starting point, Schmidt began to fiddle with the grip the following day while playing catch and was surprised by how quickly he felt comfortable with it.
Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu talked with reporters this morning, including Erik Boland of Newsday Sports and Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. LeMahieu noted that he is at “100 percent” as he enters camp this spring, able to play with no limitations. In addition, LeMahieu says he’s excited to play in a utility role for the Yankees this season. With Anthony Rizzo at first base and Gleyber Torres at second, while Oswald Peraza, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa all expected to mix and match at shortstop and with Josh Donaldson at third base, at least until top prospect Anthony Volpe is ready to contribute, LeMahieu figures to pick up playing time at each of first base, second base, and third base this season. LeMahieu played second base almost exclusively prior to signing with the Yankees ahead of the 2019 season, but since then has moved around the infield more often, racking up 872 innings of work at first base and 1,171 innings at third base in a Yankees uniform.
