Van Slyke was the most under rated player in baseball for a few years… I always thought that about Van Slyke. He made Bonds a better left fielder. One of my best friends is Bob Patterson who pitched for the Pirates during those years. We got to travel some with the Pirates during that time(not flying with them but staying in the team hotels and sitting with the families at the games). I've got some funny stories about Van Slyke, Bonds, Bonilla, Leyland, etc. Good times. Cool, Bearman! Let’s dish out those stories. I’d love to hear them, and I’m sure I not the only one…

Got anything on Joe Orsulak or Rick Reuschel or Rick Rhoden?

Not on TV or radio. I’m about an hour from home having a burger in a little town called Saguache (pronounced sa-WATCH). It’s snowing out side, adding to the joy of the little side trip to come here. The place sits at about 8,000 feet and is surrounded by mountains. Very out of the way. It would be a delightful place to live if there were medical facilities, but in town with 100-200 people, that’s just no to be. The Sinclair station is equipped with the once-obligatory dinosaur statue, still well maintained with a fresh coat of green paint. Just found out this little cafe usually only serves lunch and breakfast, and we walked in 45 minutes after closing. The owner never peeped a word of complaint, sat and served us… Small town courtesy is amazing…

Well done, no onions, no pickles, no lettuce, no tomato, no mustard, no mayo, no ketchup...

Filled the belly. Ruth had biscuits and gravy, which she said was also sort of so-so. We’ll be back in town again, there’s a mountain pass just west of there I want to travel. There is another restaurant in town, plus a pizza place / pub that will probably have later hours. It was nice of the lady to stay open, but she told us a friend was using her car to pick up supplies for her for the weekend, so she was stuck there and cleaning the place anyway. We gave her a nice tip and insincere compliments. One thing about this valley (Saguache is at the northwest corner of it), if you need things it can be a long trip to pick them up. It’s on edge of the foothills at the confluence of the La Garita mountain range and the Sawatch Range (same pronunciation but different spelling. There’s a booming tourist business there for hi ring season and trail riding. You can rent Jeeps there to go beat up in the hills…

Not on TV or radio. Well, crap. I saw the game on my TV menu, but I didn’t see the words “no broadcast”. Supposedly, I’m guaranteed no blackouts during the season. It’ll be interesting to see if that comes about… I don’t know if a game on “Apple” counts as a blackout or not. I guess we’ll find out how the lexicon is being delivered when the time comes…

I strongly recommend Roku. We bought out little receiver box for about $70. (Upgraded, the lowest price one is about $40). Our old DISH was $158 per month.
We chose to pay for Roku premium at $5.23 per month. That’s it! $153 per month saved.
That said, we also have an antenna for local channels (though you can get them on Roku, we don’t bother.
You can pay for lots of extra shows and channels if you need them, and my MLB.com X-innings was a once per year subscription of $149…
I would have had to pay more than that for the baseball with DISH. Last year it was an extra $260…
