The only reason to worry about Severino is if he's hiding an injury and I don't know why he would.

He is as versatile a player defensively as one can get - able to play catcher, the infield, and the outfield. Also, he makes contact and can steal bases. Last year, he hit really well with runners in scoring position - one of the few Yankees who did. He has worth, I just did not like his double-clutching at shortstop, which led to throwing errors. His occasional routine boots did not help his cause either. The second half of what you said is my issue it seems any positives he has he makes some dumb mistake to ruin it all too often. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That was something that happened last year that hasn’t been characteristic of his career. I see him as a great bench piece. I believe the Yankees realize that he can still have long term value if he’s not traded, but with the young players on the way that value is more likely as a utility player. After all, DJ is getting some mileage on him. I like the experiments. I liked IKF before we acquired him and found him to be a pesky opponent. It think he can contribute in many ways…

Again, the game is not televised. DJ singled, Judge doubled to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead over the Pirates. Stanton with a productive out, scoring Judge from third for his first RBI of the Spring. Rizzo struck out in between.
The line up is
Lemahieu - 2B Judge - LF Rizzo - 1B Stanton - DH Donaldson - 3B Cabrera - CF Peraza - SS Ortega - RF Narvaez - C
Schmidt gets the start on the mound.
This may be very close to what they (Boone/Cashman) start off the season, unless Steinbrenner intervenes. If Spring training ended today, I would give Dominguez and Volpe the starts in LF/CF and SS. To me, they have earned a place over Hicks and Peraza/IKF. Volpe is going to be a star.

Cabrera walks then gets thrown out stealing second on what the announcers stated was a perfect throw. I really like this more aggressive baseball and hope it continues. If DJ was playing third, Volpe and Cabrera at SS/2B or 2B/SS, with Cabrera in the outfield, that would be three legitimate base stealers. Also, I have a feeling Judge wants to get to 20 this season.

Nine up, nine down for Schmidt. By far, his best outing of the Spring.

Schmidt's line thus far: 5 innings, no hits, no runs, no BB, 7 strikeouts. 50 pitches. I know it's only Spring Training, but it's comforting to see that from him. He has an opportunity here and needs to make the most of it.
