Just an awful AB by Cabrera. That guy was trying to walk him. Beginning to wonder about the overall hitting philosophy of the Yankees. No situational awareness. Just swing hard at any pitch that might be a strike. Cabrera should have been taking all the way there til he got a strike. They used to have takes signs for those situations.

Was Peraza not available to hit for Hicks? Or for that matter, where is Jonathan Davis when you need him?

Cabrera should have been taking all the way there til he got a strike. They used to have takes signs for those situations. Apparently, that's no longer a thing. Analytics I suppose, although I thought analytics encouraged walks.

I think that's 3 straight games the Yankees have scored 0 runs of the opposing starting pitcher.

I think that's 3 straight games the Yankees have scored 0 runs of the opposing starting pitcher. I know it's early and their record is ok and the rays aren't going to win 20 of every 23 games and finish 140-22 on the season, but they are already 7 games behind the Rays which is a lot of games to be behind this early in the season. On top of that what CHI just said they are letting these starers pitch deep into games. Of course there's injuries and they've won most of their series, but is it really good to be 10 games behind before May 1st which is where this might be heading?

Its April 25th and the insipid motivational quotes from Boone have already begun.

I think that's 3 straight games the Yankees have scored 0 runs of the opposing starting pitcher. Yes it is. Manoah, Gausman and Gray, each with 7 IP and zero runs allowed. They always say good pitching stops good hitting, but against bad hitting it works even better.

Glad I wasn't posting last night because there would have been some hot takes on there better left unsaid. But I would like to avail myself of the opportunity to note how much contempt I have for Sonny Gray. This guy was blessed with great stuff, but because he by his own admission felt fear when he pitched at Yankee Stadium, he really hurt the Yankees. During the broadcast they put up a graphic showing that Gray in his tenure with the Yanks had a 4.51 ERA, which is more than a run per game higher than it is for any of the other three teams he has pitched for.
But even that doesn't tell the whole story. In 22 games pitched at Yankee Stadium, Gray has an ERA of 6.06. The only park in which he has a worse ERA (minimum two games) is -- surprise -- Fenway, where he sports a glossy 6.84 for five games pitched. That tells you a lot about his intestinal fortitude. I don't think it was a complete accident that Minnesota's pitching alignment worked out so that he didn't pitch in any of the four games at Yankee Stadium. I also don't think it was happenstance that Joey Gallo had a brief IL stint conveniently timed to miss that series. But Gallo I have some compassion for because he appears to have genuine mental/emotional problems. Gray is just gutless, like Ed Whitson in days of yore. Although it's hard to picture Boone getting into a brawl with him like Whitson did with Billy Martin.
The one bad trade I will never blame Brian Cashman for is Sonny Gray for the great Shed Long. I said at the time, I didn't care if Sonny Gray won five consecutive Cy Young Awards, I wanted his pussy face out of pinstripes at any price.
There, I feel better now.
