Just pathetic. Sounds more suited to a Pee Wee hockey coach than a major league manager. I often felt embarrassed at some of Billy Martin's antics when he was managing, but after six years of Aaron Boone's cooing and hand-holding, I almost yearn for a deranged profanity-laced outburst followed by a Scotch-inspired right cross to the jaw. I'm just too old for this world.

Glad I wasn't posting last night because there would have been some hot takes on there better left unsaid. But I would like to avail myself of the opportunity to note how much contempt I have for Sonny Gray. This guy was blessed with great stuff, but because he by his own admission felt fear when he pitched at Yankee Stadium, he really hurt the Yankees. During the broadcast they put up a graphic showing that Gray in his tenure with the Yanks had a 4.51 ERA, which is more than a run per game higher than it is for any of the other three teams he has pitched for. But even that doesn't tell the whole story. In 22 games pitched at Yankee Stadium, Gray has an ERA of 6.06. The only park in which he has a worse ERA (minimum two games) is -- surprise -- Fenway, where he sports a glossy 6.84 for five games pitched. That tells you a lot about his intestinal fortitude. I don't think it was a complete accident that Minnesota's pitching alignment worked out so that he didn't pitch in any of the four games at Yankee Stadium. I also don't think it was happenstance that Joey Gallo had a brief IL stint conveniently timed to miss that series. But Gallo I have some compassion for because he appears to have genuine mental/emotional problems. Gray is just gutless, like Ed Whitson in days of yore. Although it's hard to picture Boone getting into a brawl with him like Whitson did with Billy Martin. The one bad trade I will never blame Brian Cashman for is Sonny Gray for the great Shed Long. I said at the time, I didn't care if Sonny Gray won five consecutive Cy Young Awards, I wanted his pussy face out of pinstripes at any price. There, I feel better now. 😂 classic post, pipps.

You're too kind as always, Kaybli. It's just a rant, probably in bad taste, but I guess I'm glad I still have passion for this game. I even slept on it, took a long hike this morning, and still I couldn't hold it in. I'm sure Sonny Gray is a nice guy. In other news....

Nice to see Pipps getting out some frustrations. Don't hold back, my friend! Thanks Chi. You got in some good shots yourself. Every now and then we have to let loose. If I could run marathons like you do, I don't know if I'd have any capacity left for a rant!!

Beginning to wonder about the overall hitting philosophy of the Yankees. No situational awareness. Just swing hard at any pitch that might be a strike. Cabrera should have been taking all the way there til he got a strike. They used to have takes signs for those situations. 2 BB in over 70 AB this year tells you all you have know about his discipline…

Pipps, you seem like the kind of man usually reserves his contempt for a bad bartender, so this is enlightening. I'm with you on Gray. He's got a great arm and a candy ass heart. I knew Whitson when he was with the Pirates. He was just an arrogant, punk.

What happened to Dillon Lawson, the Yankees great hitting guru? I just don’t see how something like this gets over-looked. Right now he doesn’t look like he’s identifying pitches well at all. I think the book is to soft toss him with breaking stuff out of the zone. He has talent and enough pop to hit 25 HR. Somebody, Dillon Lawson, or whomever needs to rescue him…

As for Whitson, it is sometimes forgotten that he was the one who initiated the fight with Billy Martin. For once Billy was sort of on the side of restraint. I hear you on Whitson, he was not well-liked by his Yankee teammates.

2 BB in over 70 AB this year tells you all you have know about his discipline… Cabrera does need to learn some plate discipline. What happened to Dillon Lawson, the Yankees great hitting guru? Likely what has happened with the long line of Yankee hitting coaches, whose players shut down in the playoffs and other big games. Was Kevin Long one of the firsts on the list? My memory has likely blocked out those names once they were jettisoned. Do today's athletes really listen to minor league washouts, unless they are in a deep slump? The hitters we are watching these days may require more gravitas in the position who can also teach hitting as a situational approach depending upon the team and opposing pitcher.
