Michael wasn't the GM when the Yankees won the world series. But former MLB player Bob Watson was. So, that’s who I missed….🫥 That's why I said technically. Michaels and Buck Showalter built the majority of that roster that won the 4 World Series but neither one was the GM when they actually won. I do give Watson credit, because he made the trade with Seattle that brought in Tino and Nelson.

On one hand, that looks like a short list, but on the other it looks long considering they’re former players. Not every athlete is scholarly enough to tackle a job like being the GM…

1,889 MLB players have no hits and at least one strikeout, for an infinite ratio. They are “led” by Daniel Cabrera who managed to strike out 24 times. Cabrera was an average pitcher for six seasons from 2004 to 2009 and in 32 plate appearances managed 2 walks, 1 HBP, 3 sacrifices, two other outs, 24 strikeouts and no hits.
Among players with one career hit, so the ratio is defined, the record is 40 strikeouts by Fred Gladding, a relief pitcher from 1961 to 1973. He had 63 plate appearances with one single and 40 strikeouts. He had no walks or HBP, grounded into one double play, but did have five sacrifices. Remarkably, he had three RBIs and scored one run...

Burt Hooton was drafted in the MLB draft in 1971 and was in MLB by the end of the season, pitching a 2-hit shut out for the Cubs in his final start of the season.
On April 16th, 1972 Hooton pitched a no-hitter in his first start of the year.
In a very special event on September 16th of that year, Mets starter Tom Seaver was pitching vs. Hooten and in the 3rd inning Seaver walked Ron Santo and Rick Monday and then decided to walk Ellie Hendricks to get to Hooton, who hit his first of 4 career HR, the first Grand Slam of three Seaver would allow in his career. Yogi Berra, Mets manager immediately pulled Seaver from the game.
Unlike most knuckleballers, Hooton truly threw the ball with his knuckles instead of his fingertips…

Over his career, Daniel Vogelbach has a drastic set of splits — 74 home runs and a .240/.362/.452 slash line in 1555 PA against righties, and a dismal .129/248/.215 slash in 323 PA against southpaws.

Almost 40 years have passed since Pete Incaviglia finished his his college seasons he still owns the NCA single season record and career record for HRs. He hit 100 from 1983-85 and 48 in 1995 alone.
Incy was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Game in Lubbock, TX in 1995 with a pretty impressive group, including Lou Gehrig. See the list of that year’s inductees below:

He also batted .444. And as a pitcher he still holds the single-game strikeout record for the Lions with 17. I've never been able to find Christy Mathewson's collegiate baseball records at Bucknell, but he was actually better known for his football exploits. The originator of the All-American teams, Walter Camp, said that Matty was the best drop-kicker he had ever seen. He was honored as "the twelfth man" on Camp's 1900 All-American team. That year he also had a 65-yard touchdown run and a 75-yard punt return for a TD. He was Captain of the football team, President of his senior class, head of the literary society, and a member of the glee club. He also met his future wife Jane there. Of all things, he was a forestry major. The archetypal Golden Boy who, of course, died at the age of 45 from the effects of a mustard gas attack he endured during a training exercise in World War I.

History made...1st Rainout at Chase Field (Phoenix)The Diamondbacks’ penultimate spring training game, against the Cleveland Guardians at Chase Field, was called due to rain after six innings. The game was the first of two exhibitions at Chase Field before Thursday’s Opening Day. The ballpark has a retractable roof, but the roof cannot be opened and closed with fans in attendance due to issues with the cables. Since the start of the 2022 season, the club has had to determine before gates open whether the roof will be open or closed on a given night. This is the first time that the issue has led to a rain delay or cancellation. www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/diamondbacks-game-at-chase-field-canceled-in-franchises-first-rainout/ar-BB1kwT5G

20,532 people have played in a major league baseball game. Eleven of them have played all nine defensive positions in their career.
Five have done it in a single game as a stunt: Shane Halter, Bert Campaneris, Andrew Romine, Scott Sheldon and Cesar Tovar.
Six have done it over multiple games: Steve Lyons, Jake Elmore, Don Kelly, José Oquendo, Cookie Rojas and Bill Pecota...

This is from yesterday’s “This Day In Baseball History”, but I found it interesting enough to post a day late. My, how the game has changed…
1882 - A fence has been erected on the Recreation Ground in San Francisco which forces the left fielder "to play over the fence, causing the players much inconvenience."… 😂

In case you lost count, YOSHINOBU YAMAMOTO is the 78th player from Japan to play in MLB.
In 1964 20 year old Masanori Murakami was the first, and pitched decently for the Giants. He only stayed in MLB for that one season, as he has a contractual obligation to return to Japan, where he enjoyed another 17 seasons playing…

When Jim Abbott tossed his no-hitter it was against a strong Cleveland line up that boasted six all stars and a future Hall of Famer.
Abbott no-hit CLE on 03-Sep-1993 in Yankee Stadium. Among those not getting a hit against him that day were Kenny Lofton, Carlos Baerga, Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome & Sandy Alomar…

Bob Horner is the only player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a game that his team lost…
Montreal hit 3 home runs that day to beat the Braves 11-8. Al Newman* (226 .304 .266 .570 58) hit his only career HR in 2,409 career plate appearances to help Montreal out-slug Atlanta…There were two outs and a runner on second base when he victimized Zane Smith with a drive to deep left field…
*Al Newman, not Alfred E. Neuman from Mad Magazine…
For the legacy posters here who recall JWildfogel, this would have set him off on 4,308 word post about Spy vs. Spy, 43-man Squamish and who-knows-what else…and then he would have followed up with at least six posts of another 800 words or more recalling particular episodes and historic anniversary issues, etc…
