So, I’ve decided to relocate this discussion to A new thread. I feel like I’m dominating a thread that was actually originally intended for non-baseball information.
There are some interesting discussions to be had in the BS thread. I want to stop intertangling with those discussions.
No, this is not “my thread”. I would love to have others add their own individual posts and reply to mine.
Now, I just have to remember to use this thread…

STEVE CARLTON In 1969 Carlton became the first MLB to fan 19 batters in a game. It’s rather a shame that he lost 4-3, but how many remember HOW he lost? Ron Swoboda cracked a pair of two run jacks against him! www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN196909150.shtmlCarlton was as focused as any pitcher who ever lived. Nothing distracted him. He devoted his undivided attention to the task at hand. 'Lefty was a craftsman, an artist,' said another Phillies Hall of Famer, Richie Ashburn. 'He was a perfectionist. He painted a ballgame. Stroke, stroke, stroke, and when he got through (pitching a game) it was a masterpiece. There was nothing accidental about it. His games were perfectly orchestrated.'" Famous Steve Carlton quote: …………………😂 90 - Steve Carlton finished his career with 90 balks, the Major League record for Most Balks in a Career. His 82 National League balks are the most in the senior circuit and his American League counterpart is Charlie Hough, with 32 career balks… 304 - Steve Carlton pitched 304 innings in 1980, the last pitcher in Major League history, from any team to throw 300-or-more innings during a single season. Carlton was the first left handed pitcher to amass 3,000 K’s and the youngest left handed pitcher to reach 300 wins…

DAZZY VANCE
"Back in Nebraska I knew a cowboy who, when he saw a horse, a gun or a dog that he liked, would say ‘Ain’t that a daisy,’ only he would pronounce ‘daisy’ as ‘dazzy.’ I got to saying, ‘Ain’t that a dazzy,’ and before I was 11 years old, the nickname was tacked on me." - Dazzy Vance
He had a habit of making absurd boasts about his marksmanship with a pistol, then backing them up by slicing a card in two edgewise and by shooting through the bottom of a bottle without breaking the neck of the bottle. From this he got a secondary nickname, “Dead Shot”.
From 1922 through 1928, Vance led the NL in strike outs , five times leading the majors…
In 1924 Dazzy had an immaculate inning during his pitching Triple Crown season…

The hilariously named Frank Wurm was a one game wonder. The 20-year old Wurm (that sounds hilarious, doesn’t it?) started a game for Brooklyn vs the Boston Braves in he second game of a 1944 double header and had the misfortune of allowing 1 hit and five walks with 4 runs scoring against his slate in only 1/3 of an inning. Thus his career in MLB ended with a 108.00 ERA… We need to add Frank Wurm to future all creature teams… www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wurmfr01.shtml

RANDY JOHNSON
2 immaculate innings:
Johnson’s 1st Immaculate Inning was the bottom of the 6th on 02-Sep-1998 versus HOU. For good measure, Johnson did it again 3 years later, 6th inning of the G on 23-Aug-2001 against PIT.
Randy Johnson had 12 games in the National League where he struck out at least fifteen batters, a senior circuit record for Games in a Career with 15+ Strikeouts.
Randy Johnson had 29 games (across both leagues) where he struck out at least fifteen batters, a Major League record for Games in a Career with 15+ Strikeouts.
Randy Johnson struck out sixteen batters on July 18, 2001, the Major League record for Most Strikeouts in a Game by a Relief Pitcher.
Randy Johnson had 114 games in the National League where he struck out at least ten batters, a senior circuit record for Games in a Career with 10+ Strikeouts.
On September 24, 2009, The Sporting News announced their Team of the Decade which was composed of Joe Mauer (catcher), Albert Pujols (first base), Jeff Kent (second base), Derek Jeter (shortstop), Alex Rodriguez (third base), Barry Bonds (outfield), Ichiro Suzuki (outfield), Manny Ramirez (outfield), David Ortiz (designated hitter), Randy Johnson (starting pitcher), Mariano Rivera (closer) and Joe Torre (manager)…

Former Yankee Tom Sturdivant was born on this day. His ‘56-57 seasons of 16-8 and 16-6 were enigmas in a long career that never saw him win in double figures again.
He would have been 93 this year, but he passed away at 78 back in ‘09…

PRDRO MARTINEZ
You knew it was coming, so I saved Pedro for last.
Batters facing Martinez in 2000 batted a very soft .167.
Pedro’s 1999 is acknowledged by many as one of the best seasons any pitcher ever had. In the 7 starts between 15-Apr & 18-May, he never stuck out fewer than 10. Then in his 8 starts between 19‑Aug & 27-Sep, he did it again. Only Nolan Ryan ever accomplished that even once.
For CYA voting from 1997 to 2000, our boy (yes, we ARE HIS DADDY) finished: 1st, 2nd, 1st *& 1st *.
*Unanimous
