A young Dan Patrick reports on a young Don Mattingly. Munson, Mattingly, and Jeter - my favorite players in that order. I'm definitely with you on Munson and Mattingly being 2 of my favorites. Add Murcer (all time favorite), Gehrig (no I never saw him play), Riveira, Nettles, Guidry and Roy White.

Getting the two illegitimate members of the club out of the way allows us to focuse on the very biggest star of the 300/300 club, and that is of course Willy Mays.
Of the seventeen players with more than 1,835 career runs batted in, he is the only one who never led his league in RBI for a season. He did lead the Giants in RBI though. A whopping 11 times.
Home run #100 off Joe Nuxhall Home run #200 off Warren Spahn Home run #300 off Jack Curtis Home run #400 off Curt Simmons Home run # 500 off Don Nottebart Home run # 600 off Mike Corkins
Such an indignant ending in SF occurred May 11, 1969, when the man got traded for Charlie Williams and $50,000
Mays became the first ever 300/300 player in April of 1969 with a stolen base on April 8, 1969.

If they ever do "soften" I think they will let the juicers in before Rose. In my opinion Rose should be in first and Shoeless Joe. But as Inger stated, there are consequences to breaking rules. I don't believe Shoeless Joe will ever get in. I've read some articles about the investigation and I think there is stong evidence that he took money to help throw the series. While his stats were pretty good he didn't seem to produce in key situations. He was on record under oath saying he received 5k of the promised 20k he was offerred. What is interesting in the stuff I read is that despite how the movie portrayed him, Bucky Weaver also in on the fix. At least to the point of knowing what was going on and participating in early meetings. He and family members claim he never took any money but some of the comments that were attributed to him during the investigation seem to contradict this. If I recall accurately, Jackson hit .375 and hit the only series home run.

Billy Martin's Birthday Party at the Copacabana and June 15th Trade
May 17,1957-The New York Yankees would top the Kansas City A’s by the score of 3-0 behind Bob Turley's 4-hit shutout. Mickey Mantle has a HR off of A’s Pitcher Alex Kellner, the 11th time in his last 12 at bats he's reached base safely. That night a group of Yankee players would go to celebrate Billy Martin's 29th birthday in a raucous fashion. After dinner and show, former Yankees teammate now with A's, OF Bob Cerv and his wife, leave the party group, as the rest of them would watch a Sammy Davis Jr. perform at Manhattan's Copacabana Night Club, An ensuing fight incident leads to $5,500 in Yankee player fines and the eventual trade of Billy Martin to Kansas City on June 15,1957. Billy for years, he will blame Manager Casey Stengel for not standing up to Weiss to prevent his trade. The two had been close since their days with AAA Oakland Oaks (PCL). In 1949, the had acquired INF Billy Martin and OF Jackie Jensen in a trade.
Hank Bauer allegedly starts the fight by hitting a patron, although Bauer denies it. The next day, Yankees GM George Weiss fines veteran players: Pitcher Whitey Ford, OF Hank Bauer, Catcher Yogi Berra, OF Mickey Mantle and INF Billy Martin $1,000 each and Rookie Pitcher Johnny Kucks $500. The next day, Martin is benched by Manager Casey Stengel, replaced at 2B by Rookie Bobby Richardson. The Yankees front office will return the fine money collected from the players after the 1957 World Series is over, except for Billy Martin, who is now with the Kansas City A’s.

May 22,1962-The Yankees RF Roger Maris, who went all of the 1961 AL season without receiving an intentional walk, collects 4 walks in a 12-inning 2-1 win against the Angels to set an AL record. Maris receives 5 walks in all. Four Yankee pitchers (Whitey Ford, Jim Coates, Bud Daley and Bob Turley) combine to give up just 1 Angel hit in 12 innings. Yankees Starter Whitey Ford leaves after 7 innings because of back spasms, Reliever Jim Coates gives up the lone Angels hit, a 1-out 9th-inning single to Rookie Catcher Buck Rodgers.

You’ll find Carlos Beltran on that wealthy gorilla list at #16
. He was 17 years old when his father advised him to quit chasing a career in volleyball and focus on baseball. Pretty good advise, I’d say.
Beltran joined the 300/300 club with a stolen base in June of 2012.

Steve Finley
Perhaps the most unlikely of the 300/300 club members. It’s rare for a college player to make it to MLB at 24 yrs. Of age and still have a 19-year career.
Finley and Wille Mays are the only players in a contrived “club” with over 120 career triples, 2,500 or more hits and at least 5 gold gloves in CF.
In 1993, when he was just 28 he was stricken with Bell’s Palsy in spring training, which threatened his baseball career. To his credit he was still able to recover and appear in 142 games and lead the NL with 13 triples.
Finley coached the Brazilian national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiersand managed them in the 2023 WBC Qualifiers.
Like Reggie Sanders mentioned in a former post, Finley just squeaked in to the 300/300 club, doing so with a HR in June of 2006…

In 2018 Oliver Drake became the first player to appear for 5 MLB teams in one season. He played for the Brewers, Indians, Angels, Blue Jays, and Twins that year.
"(Oliver) Drake said he hopes to stick with the Twins, but given the way this season has gone, he's trying to take it day by day. For now, he's keeping his sense of humor about this season and said he'll have some souvenirs from his record-setting journey. 'I do have jerseys from all of them,' Drake said. 'So the man cave will have a lot of jerseys. It'll be a heck of a story.'"
- Bollinger, Rhett. MLB Staff Writer. Drake makes MLB history with debut for Twins. 17 August 2018…

Copacabana Club Part 2, Here come the Judge and Casey Stengel
May 16,1957-For his part in the Copacabana Nightclub fight incident, Yankees OF Hank Bauer is arraigned in New York City court. He is eventually cleared and threatens to sue the alleged victim, Edward Jones, who suffered a concussion and a broken jaw. In today's game, Catcher Yogi Berra, 2B Billy Martin and Pitcher Whitey Ford are benched by Yankees Manager Casey Stengel, meanwhile RF Hank Bauer bats 8th in the Yankees starting batting order. Mickey Mantle has a single, 2 walks and a HR to back Starter Bob Turley's 4-hit, 3-0 shutout over the Kansas City A's. Bob helps his own cause by starting a triple play. Rookie Bobby Richardson starts at 2nd. The Yankees now trail the White Sox in the AL by a half game.
