Clemente was an excellent player. The Pirates drafted him in the Rule 5 Draft from the Brooklyn Dodgers. I don't know for sure, but I doubt if there was a better player than him that was ever drafted via the Rule 5 Draft.

KELLY GRUBER Gruber didn’t marry a hot chick. His mother was a hot chick, though. She was Gloria (Hunt) King, a former Miss Texas. Gruber would be known as the player completing the second ever World Series triple play had the current system of replays. assets1.sportsnet.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/WS2.jpg…

It would have to be another Hall of Famer and the Rule 5 wasn’t even around for most of them. I can’t think of anyone better…

This is one of favorite all time favorite baseball highlights. What an amazing throw. This vidio got me wondering so I looked it up. Clemente was 17 on the all time list of OFer assists. What's interesting is he is the first modern day player on the list. Most are from the early 1900's including Speaker and Cobb who are 1 and 2. Not sure why OF assists were more common then, perhaps one of you old guys who saw them play could comment?

I’m not old enough to have seen it, but: Catchers at one point would compile a league average CS of nearly 40%. The value of an out was unknown, so runners ran with more aplomb than they do today. And that included when the were advancing on hits as well. They didn’t have stats on outfielders arms, etc.. It almost makes you wonder how they ever scored any runs, but the reality was that between the normal hits and walks, the tiny gloves and the scoring of those day allowed so many players to reach base that the unearned runs piled up…
