Kris Benson Here’s a player with a hot and wild babe. Anna Benson was so brash that she became famous for being Benson’s wife. I knew she was loose with her words, but I didn’t know a lot of things about her that show up in her biography (below). Let’s just say that she was a handful. A rumor (subsequently denied by Mets management) was started that the reason the Mets swapped Benson to Baltimore was to get rid of Anna. As for Benson himself, a 70-75 pitcher that only once pitched to an ERA under 4.00, his wife was more famous than he after they married. He was, however the first pitcher ever to be chosen #1 in the draft to start and win his first MLB game. He also can boast that his only MLB HR was slugged off of Pedro Martinez…. The bio: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Benson

This is one of favorite all time favorite baseball highlights. What an amazing throw. This vidio got me wondering so I looked it up. Clemente was 17 on the all time list of OFer assists. What's interesting is he is the first modern day player on the list. Most are from the early 1900's including Speaker and Cobb who are 1 and 2. Not sure why OF assists were more common then, perhaps one of you old guys who saw them play could comment? Hey 55, one reason was as Inger stated that baserunners were simply more reckless then in taking chances. Nobody was keeping percentages, plus runs were scarce in the deadball era so they considered it worth the risk. Another reason is that OFers in general played more shallow than they do today because that beat-up old ball just didn't travel as far. Speaker played especially shallow even by the standards of his time. His philosophy was that he could run down anything hit over his head, so he played a kind of mid-field. I knew a man who saw Speaker play many times. When Paul Blair came around, he said that Blair played about as shallow as anyone he had seen since dead ball times, but added that Speaker still played closer to the infield. I'm not sure I've ever witnessed a player more exciting to watch than Roberto Clemente. He could take over a game single-handedly with his bat -- great bad-ball hitter -- his legs and his arm. Such fluidity -- poetry in motion, as the old Johnny Tillotson song went.

yeah, that 1901 image needed a rebranding. For whatever reason, the interlocking NY logo today is not the same on the cap & jersey.

The logo on the cap is lean & crisp. The logo on the jersey is squashed out of proportion...especially the "Y"

You're right, did they just change it recently?

You're right, did they just change it recently? No, it's been that way for as long as I know. Several years ago I took relatives from Chicago on a tour of Yankee Stadium. I asked the tour guide to explain the difference...he said there was none. ??????

I don't know where Judge got this hat, but this logo is different too. Don't mean to sound like a snob, but I refuse to wear any of the different colored caps (red, green) I've seen. I do have a ST cap that I'll wear occasionally...grey with blue bill.

Nothing wrong with being a traditionalist. I have a white one from the 1998 championship I wear from time to time. Also had the “world championship” wording on it. I often hear someone say “nice hat” when I wear it. Ruthie gave me the actual Yankee cap I usually wear. It’s about 15 years old now. Bleached by the sun and beat up just the right amount. She recently expressed disappointment that I haven’t taken “better care of it”. I had to explain how perfect it is. Nothing like a beat up old cap. So much better than a new one…. I think she gets it now…
