Did he throw it from his bathtub? I have read at least 1 biography on every president through Bush 2. The story of Taft getting stuck in a bathtub, by most accounts never happened. He did however have a custom made bathtub put it the White House that was very large and weighed about 2000 lbs. Taft is said to have weighed about 350 lbs. Did you read those big Robert Caro volumes on LBJ? I had to read those in college. Interesting though!

IMO, there aren't as many good historians writing biographies today. Unfortunately, many seem to want to push a political narrative. One of the more interesting books I read was, believe it or not, about James Garfield. It was written by Candice Millard who is a fantastic writer. The book focused mostly on how primitive medical practices were at the time of his assassination and the efforts that were made to save his life, which inadvertently probably killed him. Everyone I have recommended the book to loved it. That's as far as I will go with politics so I don't get a time out. Appreciate how well most posters get along on the board and suspect refraining from politics is a contributing factor.

Beschloss wrote a book on him that was based on tapes that were recored in the Oval office. IIRC, they were quite colorful.

I didn't know there was an award for this, but Joe Ryan just brought home the trophy:

The only scale I town that would accommodate him, he was said to be +\- 600 pounds. But he was no useless ball of blubber. Owned a tree trimming outfit and got around quite nimbly for his size…

Napoleon LaJoie was the first player in the twentieth century to draw a bases loaded intentional walk. 23-May-1901, 9th inning. Hall of Fame manager Clark Griffith, player-manager of CHW, intentionally walked Lajoie with the bases loaded as a strategic move to minimize the damage Lajoie could do. Griffith’s strategy worked. The White Sox won the G 11-9…
LaJoie also once hit for the cycle while including a grand slam among his hits that day…

Six players have recieved an IBB with the bases loaded. Abner Dalrymple (1881), Nap Lajoie (1901), Del Bassonette (1928), Bill Nicholson (1944), Barry Bonds (1998), and Josh Hamilton (2008).

Miguel Tejada is the only player to have two seasons in which he garnered 200 or more hits with no triples. In 2002, Tejada had 204 H + 0 3B for OAK. He repeated the feat 4 years later, this time for BAL. In 2006 he had 214 H + 0 3B…

He was a very good player and had borderline HOF career stats. He was however one of the players who was embroiled in the PED controvery and even was suspended for violating the MLB banned substance policy.

On 9/29/91 Tejada had a cycle with all four hits coming against Jamie Moyer. One of the hits was a grand slam homer…
