And our good old buddy Hicks screws up in yet another way, perhaps costing us the lead. He never should have taken off on contact with the infield in… never. Then, was he or was he not tagged? Why lay there like you’ve been shot with a run at stake?…

Why lay there like you’ve been shot with a run at stake?… Seems like the Yankees always go with the contact play and it never works. That, like much else, is probably on Boone. However it is definitely on Hicks that he lay there napping while the umpire had not called him out. He didn't move until Bethancourt started screaming about tagging him. Although I think -- not 100 percent certain -- that he would have been called out on a tag review. Still no excuse for not continuing to run.

He struggled all day. Had nothing but the fast ball. Boone had a perfect chance to bring in King with a 6-3 lead. Boone has the reverse Midas touch. I thought it was fine leaving Cole in there. The rules are different with your Ace and they are expected to find way to go 6 innings without blowing a 6 run lead. Maybe in October, you take him out but not in May when the Yankees are in a stretch of playing a lot of games without a day off.

How did they lose they game lol still in disbelief Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yea I'm still pretty annoyed at losing this one being up 6-0. I didn't see Cole pitch, only heard it on the radio, so I don't know how much he had today. I would expect him to be able to hold on to a 6 run lead, but I can't give him too much hate being that's he's been so good for us so far this year. Maybe Boone should have taken him out earlier but like Chi said its tough when you have your ace on the mound and no rest days for two weeks. Frustrating either way. We should have won this series.

The problem as I saw it is that Cole was not pitching like Cole the Ace for the previous 90 pitches (no command of any breaking ball - essentially surviving on well-placed fastballs), so leaving him in when it was obvious Boone was going to use at least three to four relievers even if Cole survived the sixth seemed wishful thinking. The score was 6-3 and Boone had Jimmy Cordero get up to warm - wrong choice to preserve a three run lead with runners on against the best team in baseball thus far. King should have been the pick, since they do not use him on back to back days, he would have pitched at least two innings anyway to keep the lead. Boone brought in King anyway, after the lead was gone.

He looked ok for the first four innings but had a close call homer at one point and from then on he kinda didn't look right then gave up the actual homer but he still left the 5th inning 6-2. So I get sending him out for the sixth but then he gives up two pretty hard hit doubles in a row. Like why are you not pulling him at that point? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That inning was the first self-destruct mission Cole had been on all season. I had remarked earlier in the game, perhaps an inning or two before, that Cole didn’t seem to be getting into his own head this year and his string his focus was on the task at hand. He showed a lot of intestinal fortitude afterward by remaining in the dugout instead of going back for a shower and getting into his street clothes…

Look on the bright side, Cole lead the league last season in HR's given up. This year it took 51 innings for him to give up his first. Petty amazing turn around. Everyone has a bad game or in this case, a bad inning.
