If we were a serious organization we could have gotten Verlander ourselves. But no because he'll put us over the tax bracket.

Astros don't even have a top 100 prospect to trade I believe. This guy was #68 on the link I provided the other day I believe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The Astros know wtf theyre doing, so getting their top 2 prospects is a great get for NYM. Also Gilbert is now a top 100 prospect for anyone who cares. I would trust HOU's developmental system far more than most MLB clubs.

Why on God's green earth would we want to trade for Carlson? Is he really better than someone in our system that can play outfield next year, if we even offer him arbitration? That is a rhetorical question and a further damning indictment of our draft and develop ability.

Dammit. Why couldn't he go anywhere else???? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Because Houston is serious about winning while the Yankees just hope that they can magically get hot at the right time. So Verlander with Houston and Scherzer with Texas. Not the way Cohen drew it up last year. Two days ago they said no fire sale and now they've gotten rid of Robertson, Scherzer, Canha and Verlander. If I were a Mets fan I'd be seriously angry. Of course I'm a Yankee fan and I'm still seriously angry.

Mets fans shouldn't be angry about that. At least the Mets owned up and knew they sucked and changed direction for the future.

I don't know the financial details of the Verlander trade but I do know from what I read the Met's were willing to take a haircut on the Scherzer deal. Both Verlander and Scherzer can still pitch and I get the Rangers and Astros wanting them. I bet when it is revealed how much the Met's are going to have to pay to get rid of Verlander it wouldn't be a big difference in what we would have to pay to get rid of Stanton.

That is a rhetorical question and a further damning indictment of our draft and develop ability. Im totally fine with a Carlson move, it shouldn't be a headliner like NYY will make it out to be bc they're cheap narrow-minded fucksticks. But he's a versatile defender, really good against LHP, and hopefully the short porch helps his lefty batting numbers. He's also only 24 and we desperately need youth and athleticism. The team for 2023 need a lot more than Carlson, but he'd be an interesting add.

We should be checking in with the Pirates on Jack Suwinski and the Tigers on Riley Greene… a couple young, lesser known lefty hitters…

At least the Mets owned up and knew they sucked and changed direction for the future. For sure, they didn't let things linger, I give them credit for that. And Cohen appears completely indifferent about spending money. But judging from what I'm hearing from Mets fans on the sports talk shows, they are more pissed off that this season didn’t work out than philosophical about quickly changing course. But I do agree with your point that realistically given this disastrous season it's better to cut their losses. The Yankees are not good at cutting their losses, preferring to hang on to failed players and hope they miraculously turn it around.
