I just learned this morning that on the day he pitched his perfect game, Don Larsen's wife Vivian filled for divorce. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat! Wasn't that Jim McKay who narrated the beginning of The Wide World of Sports? |

perfect trade high candidate right now! one of German or Schmidt will be bumped from the rotation once Rodon and Cortes comes back anyway, so... I must admit to having the same thought last night!  |

Wasn't that Jim McKay who narrated the beginning of The Wide World of Sports? Yep. Philly's own Jim McManus "spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sports." That agony of defeat guy was a Slovenian skier who was completely unaware of his fame in the US until he was invited to the WWOS 20th anniversary celebration and received the loudest ovation (and even had Muhammad Ali ask for his autograph.) The thrill of victory clip changed constantly over the years, but they always kept the same clip for the agony of defeat. Jim McKay's son Sean McManus is chairman of CBS Sports. He used to do sports talk in Philly. |

Cone had Larsen there and German had Dallas Braden there.
