My old boss told me that he witnessed a Ford Pinto hit a chicken in the road, which disabled the vehicle after the beak pierced the radiator. Pinto's were the butt of many late night monologue jokes. Supposedly, the only Pintos that did not catch fire or explode from a rear impact were altered in some way. So many bad 70s cars, but Pintos stood out. The Chevy Vega was a clunker. The AMC Gremlin had issues. The Gremlin is in the collector class now… |

I had one! I bought it used. Nice car, actually. Rode very nice…  Now that you mention it, I think I do recall when I was a kid someone saying that the ride was better than expected. |
