Well, it's that time of the year again! Fall is coming and so is football season, although the pigskin is coming sooner, like tonight.
Instead of dredging up an old thread, let's start fresh.
There are a couple games of interest tonight:
Utah vs Florida
Nebraska vs Minnesota
I'm sure the usual suspects are the favorite for the NCAA title, Georgia, Bama, Ohio St, LSU...and so on. Any chance some mystery team sneaks in there and makes the playoffs?
A couple of nonconference games coming up that we should pay attention to:
Texas/Alabama & LSU/FSU (I'm sure Rizz is looking forward to this one)
Penn State/West Virginia (a rekindled east rivalry from the old, independent days)
I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of other juicy nonconference matchups.
This is the final season until conference alinement takes another step over the ledge and the Pac 12 is extinguished forever.
So enjoy!!!

Thanks for starting this Chi. I see Penn State is in a lot of pre-season top tens, but until they can beat both Ohio State and Michigan in the same year -- which they haven't done since 2013 -- it's a tough path to the playoffs.
Michigan and USC look pretty good among the non-SEC contenders this year. Harbaugh is suspended for the first three games, but they're all against crap opponents.
You have to go with Georgia until proven otherwise.

I wish FSU was not playing LSU so soon. Summer is not even over, too soon to play a team that good.

chiyankee What do you think about Najee Harris? I can trade for him in one of my leagues. Word is Jaylen Warren will be cutting into his workload but also the Steelers offense looks much improved. Is he worth trading for?

I don't know, it may be better to face a good team early while they're still maybe working out some issues. No exact formula, of course, but if I'm a heavy underdog I'd rather face a team in game one than in mid-season. But yeah, weird things can happen at any point in the season.

Is he worth trading for? Yes. Tomlin loves Harris and he's still going to get a bulk of the carries, despite what fans on social media say about Warren.

This is “true” fandom. You still claim them as yours… 👍

It could be worse, you could be a Nebraska fan. The program has fallen to depths of the Big Ten basement.

It could be worse, you could be a Nebraska fan. The program has fallen to depths of the Big Ten basement. Exactly. Who could have believed that? They've been down a long time after being a machine for 40 years. That Nebraska-Oklahoma game over Thanksgiving weekend was always one of the best college events of the year. Man I miss those great old rivalries and the genuine conferences they grew in.

I have to admit that's the first I've encountered that one. But playing Utah on the road was never going to be an easy task anyway, and you did beat them last year if memory serves. You guys are stuck in a rough neighborhood with all those BCS monsters, and I think awful things like the transfer portal only help keep things lopsided. I can remember when your coach was Ray Graves -- you probably can remember him too -- and he recruited Steve Spurrier and I think Jack Youngblood was on his team. Also Doug Dickey, another Tennessee guy who came to Gainesville and who I now see in looking him up is still living at the age of 91. One of our Penn State guys, Galen Hall, did pretty well at first for you, but then the mess from the Charlie Pell times restricted the recruiting so badly that he was in an impossible position. I guess the Spurrier years are still the most glorious, right? Seemed like you were almost always in the hunt. I was only in Gainesville once -- we had visited the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings home in the little village of Cross Creek, just a beautiful place -- and I told my wife we can't be this close to U of F and not at least see it. So we did, and it seemed like a really nice campus. I remember around the Rawlings home there were a lot of signs touting Alachua County as the place where "Real Florida Still Lives." It was actually a serene break from the hustle and development of so much of the coast. But of course the coast is what brought us there in the first place and keeps us coming back.

A Pittsburgh sports writer on the Steelers RB's. Thanks. All over the fantasy websites they are saying not to draft or acquire Najee because he will lose a lot of work to Warren. I am skeptical.
