I lost count of how many opportunities the Giants had to win that game. So many. But I want the better draft pick so we can pick Jaylen Daniels from LSU. I agree, they need a good draft slot more than they needed a win. If the Giants are going to move on from Jones, they should draft Daniels. Maybe Williams will be the exception, but in my opinion, USC QB's seem to underachieve in the NFL.

I've heard some bad things about Williams' attitude and leadership abilities. I'm sure he'll be gone when its the Giants time to pick anyway. And maybe I should get Jayden not "Jaylen" Daniels' name right if I want him so badly. If he's gone, I think the Giants will pick OT Olu Fashanu of Penn State.

I mentioned Summerall and Madden in another thread, they weren't announcing the game, but mentioning them made me thing about a funny referee call. Do you remember the Jets-Bills game when the referee made the "He's giving him the business" call after one of the Jets committed a person foul penalty? I remember that everyone in my parent's living room including me started laughing. I didn't laugh that much watching a football game since the Stanford-Cal marching band on the field game.

lol, that was a little before my time (I was only 3 in 1986) but I know the call you are speaking of. Here it is:
Absolutely Hilarious with the arm motion and everything.

I hadn't thought about that before with USC QBs, but you're right. With all of their hype, they've never really had a great NFL QB. Carson Palmer is probably the best of the bunch, not that he was anything special, but there have been so many mediocre to terrible QBs like Todd Marinovich, Matt Barkley, Paul McDonald, Cody Kessler, Pat Haden, Matt Leinart, Sam Darnold, Mark Sanchez, Sean Salisbury, and so on. Matt Cassel and Rodney Peete had their moments, but were hardly star-caliber players. I don't like that Williams, like so many NFL-bound players, opted out of his team's bowl game, but his substitute threw six touchdown passes in his first-ever start, which tells me that there's a lot more to Williams' success than just his individual talent.

Absolutely Hilarious with the arm motion and everything. One of the greatest calls by a ref, ever! It may not have been technically correct, but everyone watching knew exactly what he was talking about.

I saw Cody Kessler play several times in high school at Centennial High School in Bakersfield, California. He was a teammate and friend of Jared Norris (tight-end and linebacker), whose step-father is a good friend of mine. Kessler was an efficient QB in high school, and I knew he'd have offers from major colleges. Kessler was also a heck of a high school basketball player and a really nice kid. Jared ended up at Utah as a middle linebacker; I was really pulling for him to go to LSU, of course, wanting him to send a tape of his play to Baton Rouge.

I believe that was John Elway's last game at Stanford. Not sure, but I think you're right. Yes, it was, and Elway did not take it well. It cost Stanford a bowl invitation and meant Elway never played in a bowl game in his college career. Although he seemed to recover in time for the NFL. Almost a Yankee remember. One season at Oneonta. The trombone that got mangled during the play is on display at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

They'd worked out a pre-draft trade for Broncos to draft OL Chris Hinton. Worked out well for Broncos.

That was a great idea to put the trombone in the College Football Hall Of Fame. Hard to believe that game was so long ago. Time really does fly even when Harold Lloyd is hanging on to one of the clock's hands.

The Babe was in one of his movies, "Speedy." And let me return the compliment in that it's wonderful to see Andy Pettitte glaring over his glove again.
