Ray Davis looks like the real deal for Kentucky. He has 11 touchdowns already this season. Gator's can't tackle any way, but he looked great.

LSU falls behind Ole Miss 14-0. Defense is really suspect for the Tigers.
Now, 28-14 before halftime. Defense is definitely suspect for the Tigers.

The Texas-Oklahoma game at the Cotton Bowl was a classic, with the Sooners pulling it out in the end. One of college football's handful of greatest rivalries. I love the rivalries that have been essentially unchanged throughout my lifetime -- Texas-Oklahoma, Michigan-Ohio State, Alabama-Auburn, Notre Dame-USC, Army-Navy. Cal-Stanford is another one, but it's rare that one or both of them are national title contenders. (Army-Navy is its own separate category IMO. Yale-Harvard is fine, but isn't taken all that seriously by the alumni, who are too busy ruling over the world.) I had to look up the most-played rivalry among FBS teams -- it's Wisconsin-Minnesota, at 132 meetings and counting, for Paul Bunyan's Axe. The most of any teams, throwing in FCS teams, is the 158 between neighbors Lehigh and Lafayette. And it still means a lot to them, there are plenty of alumni from each in these parts.
How about those Louisville Cardinals? Unbeaten after toppling Notre Dame rather impressively.
Stupid coaching move of the week goes to Miami's Mario Cristobal. Leading 20-17 with the ball on Georgia Tech's 30 yard line and 30 seconds left in the game and Tech out of time outs, instead of taking a knee once or twice to end it, they handed the ball off to Don Chaney Jr, (not related to the basketball player) who fumbled it and Tech recovered and went 74 yards in 24 seconds to win. Thirty-nine years after Doug Flutie's Hail Mary miracle to beat them. And on the 107th anniversary of Tech's 222-0 dismemberment of Cumberland, the most lopsided defeat in college football history. October 7 is a good day for the Ramblin' Wreck/Engineers/Yellow Jackets.
Bama held on to beat A&M, and Georgia played its best game of the year in easily handling Number 20 Kentucky. Still no team out there that looks unbeatable to me.

Nice comeback against mizzou today, rizz. Thanks, Matt! Very lucky to escape with a win and fortunate to get some key turnovers. LSU's defense is just terrible, though. And, I don't see it getting much better this season.

They're great, but by the time you get to the fourth quarter you're usually numb from the cold.

The last time that the Patriots trailed by 31 points in back to back games, they were the Boston Patriots in 1970. That's back when Pipps was wearing burnt orange and corduroy and Inger just started wearing sombreros.

Honestly, I really enjoy watching football games from my easy chair - likely a sign of age, seeking comfort and affordability, while avoiding fist fights, drunken louts, and beer showers. Also, after watching college football games at LSU as a student, nothing seemed like it would duplicate that environment. Now, attending a baseball game from a front row seat around first or third base is still a preference and joy and likely will be at any age. Tennis matches in person would be second to baseball.

New Orleans' defense is solid, but their offense still leaves something to be desired. Turnovers and favorable field position were the true reason for scoring more than 30 points today. Happily, the NFC West is weak this season. The Patriots are just awful offensively and not very stout defensively. Bill Belichick looks completely flummoxed. Sorry about your Giants.

The closer you are to the 50 yard line, the less likely you are to see projectile vomiting. But I understand what you're saying, I go to far fewer sporting events now than I did even ten years ago. I typically get to one or two PGA events a year -- I find those to be generally fan-friendly and even the frat boy drunks are reasonably well-behaved. That's largely due to the fact that they will throw you out if you're too much of a pain. I go mostly to minor league baseball games these days. Cheaper, less hassle, better behavior. I still love going to the race track, it's in my blood. My bets are of the most modest kind, but I think it attracts the most colorful mix of humanity plus I enjoy being around horses and horse people. They have their own little universe. Yeah tennis is relatively genteel although I haven't been to a match in years. Boxing is great in person, and like horse racing attracts a wide spectrum of society. For sure though the older we get the less we feel like dealing with the annoyances. The most down and dirty crowds I've seen were at the dog track and jai alai fronton. Back in the day when I had a fair amount of work in CT both were available. If you wanted to see derelicts, no better place than the Bridgeport CT jai alai fronton on a weekday afternoon. Those places are long gone I believe.

I think football games are much easier and usually more enjoyable at my house than in person. No traffic, no parking hassles, drunks fans, expensive food and drinks and so on. Plus these TV's have become so amazing with their HD and picture quality, why not stay home?
