I’m more rooting against teams than for any teams. Rooting against Houston, Toronto, and the Rays for sure. Yeah, I think that's where I am as well. Although I never find it hard to have a temporary rooting interest in almost any competitive event. I could stumble across a Weber State -- Northern Arizona football game at 11 PM in November and within a few minutes I'd be rooting for one of them. Root for the laundry. Pick the best uniform!…

I thought I heard it wrong when the broadcasters said that the Twins had lost 18 consecutive post-season games before last night, but alas it was so. Hard to believe. Byron Buxton has assumed his traditional role on the IL. Giancarlo Stanton is Cal Ripken by comparison.
The Rangers -- Rays game drew only 19,700 hardcore fans to the Trop. That's the lowest attendance for a post-season game since Game 7 (of a scheduled 9) of the 1919 World Series between the White Sox and Reds at Crosley Field. The one that the Sox threw. Although they did win that particular game behind Eddie Cicotte, one of the more aggressive of the fixers, at least in part because the Chicago players were getting anxious that the gamblers would not pay up so they decided to apply a little pressure.
Nice to see the resurrection of Evan Longoria as he approaches age 38 with some great defensive play for Arizona.
And every time I watch Bryce Harper in these big games I get steamed that the Yankees didn't make an effort to sign him. He always plays like his pants are on fire. One of the handful of major difference-makers in the game. His role with the Phillies is somewhat like Thurman Munson's was with the Yankees. He and Judge back to back would have been something to behold.

More foresight from our fearless leaders.

A lot of that population is in South America, especially in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia, anything in the Andes. La Paz Bolivia is the world's highest altitude capital at almost 12,000 feet. The metro population is around two million. Quito Ecuador at about 9,200 feet also has around two million in the metro area. Bogota Colombia has about eight million people living at around 8,600 feet. Lots of fair-sized high-altitude cities all over Peru. Okay, back to post-season baseball. Pipps' spy work obviously took him to many countries in South America. I would have been only too happy to have Uncle Sugar pick up the tab for me to infiltrate Carneval acting under cover as a recruiter for the Samba Schools, but alas all of our travel to South America came out of our own stash. South America is vastly under-appreciated by U.S. foreign travelers who think only in terms of Europe or the Caribbean. Rio and Buenos Aires definitely rank in my top echelon of cities to visit -- and it's not South America, but Mexico City would be my third for South of the Border great cities. And make room for Bogota in there too. About altitude -- around 15 years ago Mrs. Pipps and I did the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. After a few days prowling around Lima (sea level) to eat ceviche and drink pisco sours, we flew to where the trail begins in the spectacular town of Cusco, elevation 11,500. We stayed at this wonderful joint called Monasterio -- as the name indicates, a former monastery -- and when you arrive, before you even check in, they sit you down in the lobby and provide you endless coca-leaf tea and supply you with oxygen. They had enough flat-landers coming in and passing out in the lobby. But it's amazing how quickly you adjust. After a day acclimating in town, we were out on the trail. One of life's great experiences, BTW. We do these things so that others don't have to.

Watching a little of the Rangers -- Rays game. After their four-error performance in Game One, Manny Margot misjudges a Corey Seager flyball and turns it into a double. But Texas doesn't cash in.
Jessica Mendoza is hard to take under normal circumstances. But an overamped Jessica Mendoza in post-season mode is unlistenably shrill and verbose. I won't be with this one for long.

Rays are frauds like usual.
24/26 seasons looking like with alds or sooner exit. Their methods are only good for the regular season.

Jays down 2-0, two runners on, two out with Bo Bichette batting in the 5th and doofus Vlad Jr gets picked off at second to end the inning.

Twins win a post-season series for the first time since 2002. The AL East not looking good so far. Both Toronto and Tampa Bay played lousy baseball.

The last time the Twins won a post-season series David Ortiz was their DH, AJ Pierzynski was the catcher and Doug Mientkiewicz was the first baseman. Their starting pitchers were Rick Reed, Kyle Lohse, Eric Milton and Brad Radke. The closer was Everyday Eddie Guardado. A trip down Memory Lane.

There are play by play women in MLB who I would gladly put in the booth over Jessica Mendoza. Wrong voice, with nothing to say.

They wasted their bolt just making the playoffs out of the American League East. Much like the Los Angeles Lakers had a much easier path to the NBA Championship in the West than Boston ever had in the East, with deeper teams and much more physical play.
