NY Post | Jon Heyman: This is more of a quick hits of Heyman’s thoughts and observations, but he leads off with an interesting tidbit regarding an issue near and dear to Yankees fans’ hearts. Heyman’s heard from several GMs outside of the organization that have expressed doubt that he (Juan Soto) goes anywhere other than the Bronx once he hits free agency, with Heyman adding that the team expects to have a good chance so long as their offer is close to the top. That’s all well and good, but we’ll simply have to wait and see — and nobody’s stopping you from matching any offer, Hal.

Wow… I figured we see regression this year, but Volpe is a defensive whiz…

From my perspective over a year and a half, the only areas defensively that show for Volpe are balls in the hole and coming in for slow rollers - two areas of strength for Derek Jeter. Volpe doesn't have the body length and leverage that Jeter had to get more on the throw to first on the jump throw. The slow rollers - Don Zimmer said Jeter was the best he had ever seen in 60 years of baseball on those - Volpe has room and time for improvement. Volpe has really worked to improve his arm strength, which I noticed early in the season. What is scary is that Peraza by my eye and all accounts was the better defensive shortstop. Peraza at short and Volpe at second would have been fun to watch. Alas, Peraza cannot hit a fastball for some reason, the exact opposite of what keeps minor leaguers out of the show. In retrospect, we should have traded Peraza when his value was highest two years ago. But, even if Peraza suddenly discovers a bat, Volpe is entrenched at the position and won't be moved any time soon. Peraza would have to settle for second or third. Peraza - at least before the injury - had a gun for an arm.

Volpe really has to set and load up on long throws, which sometimes reminds me of David Eckstein's throws.

What? Boone Logan on the other line with a guy about some white walls? Should I buy a set of white wall tires? Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?…

This probably means Stanton will be out for a while. The Yankees really need another bat behind Judge.
