Volpe hit the rookie wall once the summer hit, but somehow managed 20/20. I don't see why 20/40 can't be achievable for him this upcoming season.

I think the kid has shown some ability and could become a very good MLB SS. Whether you are of the opinion or not that he is a GG SS, his defense is very good. He has some speed and has put up better power numbers than I had anticipated. I also understand that not everyone is on board with him. I understand the concern and I agree he needs to be a more selective hitter, raise his average and OBP and cut down his stikeouts. What does he have to do in 2024 to take the next step and erase some of the concerns? If he were to raise his average to .250, make more contact and walk a little more would that be enough? I like Volpe and think he will be an above average player and maybe a "STAR" one day. But as we know, all young players brought up are trade chips to Cashman! Look what we just gave for a 1 year rental! As we have seen many times, players that come up and look like Babe Ruth flame out quickly! Think Gary Sánchez!

Look at who cashman passed up on for volpe , peraza , andujar , frazier , sanchez , and 20 ywars ago for hughes

Volpe’s base stealing last season from April to June: 16/1 From July to October 8/4. The trend was away from stealing. I don’t know why…

Or he may have lost his confidence once he started getting caught. In turn his running became less desirable. I’m guessing that the pitchers and catchers might have gotten a better read on when he was just hopping around to get their attention and when he was going to actually go. Now, he has to adjust his habits and quit tipping. One concern I have about him running is that he’s fast, but not fast in elite terms. Without the proper jump he’s meat. I do think he has the potential to steal 40, but I would expect that may be his MLB limit. He’s not going to be one of the guys that nab 60 or more. Baseball is a funny game. Don Baylor once stole 52 bases (52/12) while playing for Chuck Tanner who was an almost bat shit crazy running manager…

Kept saying he had a great instinct for knowing when to go and getting a good jump. Maybe the numbers went down because teams began paying more attention to him once he was on base...and, of course, he has to get on base more in order to steal more...

I'm a Volpe fan, though I admit his BA above A-ball and last year concerns me. .209 is dreadful by any measure, but he was just 21, plenty of runway to grow. A slick fielding SS cannot be underestimated. If he can get that average up into the .260-.270 range, provide some pop and steal bases, I will be thrilled. Don't think that happens overnight, but if incremental improvement can occur, he will be just fine. I'd like to see him get up around .240 this year at minimum.

In my opinion, Volpe's slump played a part in that.
