The older players have always resented the "young rich kids" who had played in MLB. Sanders didn't behave that way, while playing in the Yankees farm system under Manager Buck Showwalter. Clipper
Well, that's too bad for them since some of them were once "young rich kids". I don't know if it was Fisk's intention, but I'm not a fan of a player trying to intimidate or bully a new MLB player on the block. Maybe Fisk just didn't like what Sanders did, but in my opinion Sanders didn't do anything wrong, since he wasn't showing up anyone. MLB players step out of the batter's box for many different reasons.
Eddie Lopat would later told writer Peter Golenbock in Dynasty, “We had an esprit de corps on that ball club. There wasn’t one jealous bone on that whole ball club… Also, the older players used to reprimand the younger ones for lack of hustle. If they didn’t put out, we’d say, ‘you’re playing on this club and you’d better put out, because that’s the way we play ball here.’” Gene Woodling and Hank Bauer would tell the younger players, 'You're messing with my money." meaning World Series money.

ClipperI think that reveals something about today’s game. Players today make so much money that the post season money is not as meaningful to them as it was in the past. In years past it could make them richer or poorer. Today, they’re pretty much all making money beyond our wildest imagination…

Clipper, what you posted that Lopat said doesn't sound like resentment towards players because they are "young rich kids". Criticizing a player for lack of hustle is a totally different story. The bottom line, Fisk wasn't a Yankees so it's really none of his business.

1B - J.T. Snow, 1992 One time Yankee prospect broke into the bigs with a short stint in the Bronx in 1992. Was flipped in a package to the Angels bringing Jim Abbott back the other way. Went on to win 6-straight gold gloves with the Angels and Giants from 1995-2000.

His refusal to learn how to play the outfield by the Yankees Front office, since we already had Donny at 1B, cost him a chance to have a Yankees MLB career. That's why he was traded in the Jim Abbott deal. Clipper

He was a favorite target of one of the more obscure Heisman winners, John Huarte. I loved J.T Snow's game.

Sorry I've been off the air for a few weeks as we've been moving around. Connections have been pretty weak in a lot of places. Our island-hopping has currently settled in Rhodes. Just a spectacular place with a dramatic medieval walled city overlooking the Aegean.
I'm enjoying this thread and want to chip in a few more. From my favorite team ever, the 61 Yanks, Bob Hale and Tex Clevenger. From the Bronx Zoo Yanks, post-season hero Brian Doyle, utility IFer George Zeber and OFer Dell Allston. Those two guys hit very well during their brief Yankee tenure. And from the 98 Yanks Jay Tessmer, who looked like he could pitch a little, and Todd Erdos.
Dark Age Yanks who were supposed to be good like Steve Whitaker and Ray "Buddy" Barker. The infamous third sacker Charlie Smith, who was all Ralph Houk obtained in return for a wounded but still game Roger Maris. So glad Rog had two happy pennant-winning years with St. Louis to end his career on the high note he deserved.

RP - Jeff Reardon, 1994 One of the best closers in the game for many years through the 80's into the early 90's, primarily with the Expos, but also with the Twins and Red Sox. Had a brief, 11-game stint in the Bronx in 1994 to cap off a stellar career.
