We'll get a very quick read on this team in this series. Astros have some injuries on their staff, but still have several good starters, and their bullpen is absolutely loaded. You can't get to the 7th inning behind; coming back against them will be very difficult. Let's see how the "new-look" offense does against a team whose pitching shut them down in the playoffs in 2022 and all through 2023.
We'll also get a quick read on whether Cortes and Rodon can hold the rotation together without Cole.
Yanks have a very rough schedule to start the season: Astros, D'backs on the road; then Jays at home. I hope they can end this 10-game stretch no worse than .500.

The unlocking of Bauers was one of the sad subplots of the Yankees 2022 season. Bauers is now the backup at 1st, LF and RF for the Brewers. After we did all the hard work of unlocking him… 😶

O's already pounding the Angels 5-1 in the 3rd in the first game of the day. Knocked out Sandoval in the 2nd inning. Burnes gave up a solo HR to Trout in the first, but hasn't allowed any other runners and has K'd 4 in his two innings so far.
In contrast to the Yanks, the O's open the season against teams that are not strong, although they might be improved from last year: the Angels, the Royals and the Pirates. It's not likely, but if the Yanks start poorly, they could be five games out of first by the time they've played 10 games.

Gleyber works the count full but strikes out swinging.

Two good takes by Torres, but chased a sinker for the K.

I'm not sure why the Yankees go out and get Berti and then use Cabrera at 3B on opening day.

Gleyber fanned, but it was a good at bat before strike three…

Soto walks!
We'll see a lot of that this year!

I'm not sure why the Yankees go out and get Berti and then use Cabrera at 3B on opening day. I think it may have been a logistics issue. Berti couldn't make it in time.

Ack. Judge grounds into a DP.
