Soto working a long at bat; he's 1-3 vs. Valdez with 1 K and 1 BB coming in.
Works a nifty walk.
Adding Soto to this offense has an extra dimension; the effect on the other hitters should be similar to when they added Boggs in 1993. All of a sudden, a lot of the other hitters on the team got the idea of controlling the strike zone
...and just as I type that, Judge rolls over on a first-pitch sinker and kills the inning with a DP ball.

Judge hit it hard, just couldn't get through the 5-6 hole. The DP is disappointing, but it was good contact.

I'm not sure why the Yankees go out and get Berti and then use Cabrera at 3B on opening day. I think it may have been a logistics issue. Berti couldn't make it in time. According to YES, he's there in uniform. The guy hit .325 against LHP last year; I don't know why they'd have him on the bench. |

Altuve misses a slow cutter at the top for a K, but Alvarez hammers the next pitch to center for a hit. Just about any other Astro in the lineup would've gotten a double on that as Judge played it with caution.
Nestor's velo down so far: 91-2 on the fastball, 86 on his only cutter so far.

Bregman chases a cutter above the zone, and barely gets under it. Too close to a 3 run HR in that short left field boxes. 2 down.
