Yanks win 6-5, and finish the season opening road trip at 6-1.
They'll come home in first, 1 up on the Sox, 3 up on the Rays, and either 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 up on the O's, whose game with the Royals is finally underway. Jays play in Houston in about 1 1/2 hours, and the Yanks will either be 2 or 3 games up on them

Yanks get a day off to travel home, then the Jays come into the Stadium for three.
The Home opener is Friday at 1:05 pm on YES, Kikuchi for the Jays, and Stroman for the Yanks
Game 2 is Saturday at 7:05 on YES, Gausman, who the Yanks almost never hit, for the Jays, Schmidt for the Yanks
The finale is Sunday at 1:35 on YES, Rookie Bowden Francis for the Jays, and electric arm Luis Gil making his 1st start at the Stadium in almost 2 1/2 years.

3rd star of the game: Ian Hamilton for 2 2/3 brilliant innings of relief to keep it tied
2nd star: Verdugo, for his 2 run HR in the 10th, even though it wasn't decisive
1st star: Judge, for his 2 run HR to get the Yanks on the board, and take the lead in the 5th, and his RBI double for an important insurance run in the 11th.
Honorable mention to Caleb Ferguson for picking up the pieces of crumbling Holmes and carrying the Yanks over the finish line.

I have no idea why. Like this: ?😟, sort of. It’s a frowny face that’s not on my keyboard. I used to do it until people started asking me why the frowny face? … The three question marks only display as a frowny face on mobile. It’s an issue with the default emojis that I can’t change by conventional means. When I get home I’ll ask support if they can suggest anything. |

This game ended with my phone at 1%. I had to celebrate silently… Let’s pluck the feathers off the Jays… here in vermont, just at the start of a major winter storm. right now sounds like my roof is about to blow off. power went out just after holmes allowed the tying run. didn't come back on after gleyber's hit leading off the 11th.
actually that gleyber hit set up the 11th. in addition to getting on base to score the winning run, the hit got berti to 3B where he scored on the balk. did something similar in sunday's game to score ahead of soto's game winner off hader.
as for holmes, thought he pitched well enough. he got 4 ground balls in the 10th - one that volpe made a bad throw on and was knocked out of rizzo's glove by perdomo's helmet. and the tying run was on a dunker between the mound and 2nd base. not much you can do.
