1-2 on Gimenez.
The reason why Torres can't come home it after the 2nd bobble is that despite his poor jump, if you're late, you don't get the 2nd out, and are two batters away from getting out of the inning.
AND THERE IT IS!!!
Ferguson has little stuff left, and Gimenez hits a fliner to Soto in medium deep right, he has no chance to throw out Fry.
Yanks blow the lead twice and lose 8-7 in 10 innings.
I know the pen was depleted and they might have lost the game anyway, but if Torres just turns and gets the out at 1st instead of coming home, that fliner is the 3rd out of the inning, and they go to the 11th.
Sometimes Torres makes brilliant, inspired plays. Sometimes, he's as dumb as a post.

Not to mention Rizzo's two errors. I hope something isn't wrong with Ferguson. Nothing looked crisp and velocity was down. |

Couple games ago I said I didn't think we were a bad defensive team despite all the errors we have made this season. I've changed my mind.

Verdugo jogs down the line, stops and then gets doubled up. He must have thought the first baseman caught it. Hope someone chews out Verdugo... He does dog it when he thinks he makes a ground out... most of the time... |

yup this one's on the D. offense put up enough runs though that DP in top of 10th was a killer.
only 2 good innings out of cortes. weaver serves one up before the wheels came off in the 10th. fergy deserved better.

I'm now thinking that the Yanks won't have a championship level defense until Arias comes up and takes over short, and Volpe goes to 2nd.
They need some other things, but Volpe, despite the good defensive metrics is a bit short on the arm at short, Moving him to 2nd gives the Yanks a plus-plus defensive 2nd baseman, and Arias is supposed to be a plus shortstop. Longerhagen gives him a future grade of 60 for his defense, and his most recent scouting report on him includes: "He is also a skilled and acrobatic shortstop defender with fantastic actions and arm strength."

Yanks lose 8-7 in 10 innings, drop to 12-4 on the season, and lose a game to everyone in the division as all other East teams won today.
Yanks end the weekend 2 1/2 up on the O's, 3 up on the Rays and Red Sox, 4 up on the Jays.
