Yanks offense shut down again, lose their 2nd in a row for the 1st time this season, drop to 12-5, and will lose a game to the O's and the Jays, but not the Red Sox or Rays, who just lost to the Angels, 7-3.
Yanks end the day 1 1/2 up on the O's, 2 up on the Sox, and 3 up on the Jays and Rays.

hallmark of this team so far is getting a lot of traffic even if they don't always get them in, but had only 6 base runners tonight.
gil had no command but on the other hand kept it close enough.

Let's hope we can get to Kikuchi tomorrow. He's been tough against us lately.

Before it completely fades from memory...A.J. Burnett's postseason log from 2009
1 run in 6 innings in a no-decision in game 2 vs. the Twins in the ALDS (Teixeira won that one with his walkoff HR in the 11th).
2 runs in 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision in game 2 vs. the Angels in the ALCS (That's the game Scioscia HANDED to the Yanks by bringing in closer Brian Fuentes in the 10th to close it, and with Guzman, Gardner and Cano, waiting, let Fuentes pitch to A-Rod, he had nothing A-Rod couldn't hit, and he gave up the game-tying HR in the 10th; Yanks won it in the 13th when the Angels threw away a potential DP grounder off the bat of Melky Cabrera)
With the Yanks up 3-1 in the ALCS and with a chance to close out the series, Burnett got belted for r runs in the 1st, and when the Yanks rallied with 6 in the 7th, he tried to give it right back, giving up a hit and a walk. Marte then got two outs, and Girardi went to Phil Hughes who promptly allowed the two runs to score, blowing the lead, and then gave up the game winning run on his own, giving up a walk and two singles, the Angels won 7-6.
He then threw his best game of the post-season in a very clutch moment: 7 innings of 1 run ball after Cliff Lee shut them down cold in game 1 of the Series. Burnett went 7 innings, gave up 4 hits and 1 run with 9 K's as the evened the series with a 3-1 win.
Finally, with a chance to close it out in game 5, going against Lee, he got crushed early, giving up 6 runs in two-plus innings on 4 hits, 4 BB and a HR. Yanks tried to rally again, but fell short 8-6.
So, as I said, 3 good games, two bad ones. They don't win it all without him, they had no other viable 3rd starter with Sabathia and Pettitte, but he was a rollercoaster ride that post-season, 16 ER in 27 1/3 innings for a 5.27 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP.

Game 2 of the Jays' series is 7:07 tomorrow evening, Rodon, 1-0 with a deceptive 1.72 ERA for the Yanks. and Kikuchi, 0-1 with a 2.30 ERA in 3 starts this year for the Jays, and as Kaybli mentioned he's been mostly tough on the Yanks lately, holding them to 1 or 2 runs 4 of his last 5 starts against them in 2022 and 2023.
That's going to do it for me for tonight. See you guys tomorrow evening. Good night to all. Bye.

You must of missed the Misc. Yankees thread. Yup, he's done. Not for health reasons, he's just tired. I understand what he’s saying. You just reach a point where you’re tired of something. His was the trip to and fro the stadium. Mine? Just could no longer put up with… almost anything… had it… Too many years on salary with long, long hours… I'm really tired of paying taxes.

I checked out on Burnett when he had a 13 run lead against the White Sox (I think) and couldn't get out of the 5th. Guy was maddening.

Well, I am kind of happy I missed this game. Had a late meeting at work, then had to do my taxes. Still not sure if I paid or not - online stuff/H&R Block. Receipt for the online program but not for the payment.
