Volpe looking frustrated. Someone besides Soto needs to take a step forward. Volpe in a slump in front of Soto and Judge not Judge yet behind Soto. It was inevitable. No one expected him to go from .200 to .400 this year. But it seemed he had a magic wand instead of a bat. The pitchers adjusted, now it’s his turn to readjust…

Cutter up and in, ball 1 to Arozarena. Fb inside corner is fouled off, 1-1 Change floats outside, 2-1 Beats him with a cutter inside corner, foul tipped into the mitt, 2-2 Rushes and flies open trying to hump up to 93, misses up and away, 3-2 Cutter down and in, swung over for the K, 1 down.
Rays making Cortes work a bit harder now.

Which team will blink first today?… Noetsi answer: Inger, the average person blinks 15 to 20 times per minute. Every single person in both dugouts have already blinked multiple times.

Nestor with about 4 pitches per out today. At his best he pitches to contact…

Backdoor change to Paredes is a strike, 0-1 FB misses just above the outside corner at 93, 1-1 Cutter inside and a bit up, fouled back, 1-2 FB wasted outside, missed by 8-10 inches, crowd boos for no reason. FB outside at 94, fouled off. Big breaking backdoor slider hits the outside corner, and fools Paredes, ꓘ. Inning over.
Another 1-2-3 for Nestor, but he needed 17 pitches to strike out the side. 51 through 4.
Judge, Rizzo and Verdugo for the Yanks in the 4th.

Nestor with about 4 pitches per out today. At his best he pitches to contact… Pitches to contact, but gets K’s anyway…the difference between him and Schmidt, who fears contact and nibbles trying to get K’s…

Jays are in SD against tonight at 9:40. Jose Berrios, off to a brilliant start, 3-0 with an ERA just over 1, vs. ex-Yankee Randy Vasquez, who's making his first start of the season, I think.

Judge swings over a curve in the zone low, away, 0-1 Misses a cutter in almost the same spot, 0-2 Bounces a curve outside, 1-2 Bust him inside with a sinker up and in here? Nope another curve well out of the zone, 2-2 Sinker way outside, 3-2 Chases a curve going way low near the outside corner, K.
Nothing doing for Judge again today, so far.

Judge is really selling out on that breaking ball away this season. At least he's taking pitches and walking, but we need him to be what he has been.

Rizzo takes a sinker at the very bottom of the zone, 0-1 Sinker misses up and away, 1-1 Sinker tails back toward the inside corner, completely ties up Rizzo, who pops to Mead well over toward 1st, 2 down.
