Big breaking slider breaks into the zone, but Siri's early, misses, 0-1 Cutter low/away tapped to Rizzo off the end of the bat, he takes it to the bag, 2 down.

Big breaking slider taken near the bottom of the zone in the middle, 0-1 FB waist high, inside corner, hit sharply near Cortes, who deflects it and slows it down too much for Jones to have a chance to barehand and throw him out. Infield hit, so the perfect game and no-hitter are over <clap, clap, golf clap>

Nice job by Michael Kay in the booth to honor John Sterling. Sterling seems like a class act, even if he sometimes struggles to tell a home run from a double. I give Sterling credit for turning down Kay's offer to do one more inning on the air. Sterling did his thing for decades and when he was done, he was done.

Grisham finally earns some of his salary, throwing out Pinto at third to end the inning! The Pinto didn't run well in the 70s or in the game today.

Cutter outside to Diaz, 1-0 Swings over the FB outside, 1-1 Cutter misses high, 2-1 Cutter inside waist high, Diaz fights it off, muscles a flare in front of Grisham, he plays it safe, fields it on the hop, and Pinto chooses to insult his arm, so Grisham casually fields the hop and fires a one hopper to Volpe, who backhands on the home plate side of 3rd, then rushes over to tag out Pinto and end the inning.
Bottom 3, 0-0. Great play by Grisham and Volpe there. 14 pitches for Cortes in the 3rd, 34 through 3

So Grisham actually does have a purpose on this team. Legit Gold Glove fielder in center.

Wells swings over a 1-0 curve going low over the middle of the plate 1-1. Curve at the knees, and somehow, Wells is late and under, flies out to Arozarena in left, 1 down.

Once the decision is made after more than 60 years, no nostalgic return is necessary.

Volpe looking frustrated. Someone besides Soto needs to take a step forward. Volpe in a slump in front of Soto and Judge not Judge yet behind Soto.

1-0 slider in the middle at the knees, 1-1 on Volpe. Slider back up just inside, 2-1 Cutter outside at the knees, 3-1 Volpe chases a sinker diving under his hands, 3-2. That was ball 4, Volpe. Sinker on the inside corner, waist high, ties him up, his tapper goes right to Eflin, who throws to first for the 2nd out.

Sinker inside and Soto theatrically spins out of the way, wasn't that close. Sinker into the top of the zone, 1-1. Chases a cutter above the outside corner, 1-2 Sinker up and in jams Soto, he pops foul near the Rays dugout, Pinto hustles out, but Paredes races over from near short, calls him off, catches, inning over. You rarely see Soto get handled that easily in an at bat.
Top 4, 0-0. 13 pitch 1-2-3 for Eflin, 45 pitches through 3.
Arozarena, Ramirez and Paredes for the Rays in the 4th.
