Looks like Marinaccio and Victor Gonzalez will have to cover some innings today. Boone will likely stay away from Cody Morris unless it's one-sided, one way or the other.
Quickly 0-2 on Volpe, leading off.

Volpe with a weak wave at a curve that drops waist high off the plate away, K, 1 down. 3 pitch out after Gil's tough 1st inning.

Volpe looks lost. He has fallen right off a cliff after that scorching start

Volpe still struggling, but Soto walks like usual.

Cutter drops into the high outside corner, 1-1 on Soto. Splitter outside, 2-1 Sharp curve drops into the top of the zone over the middle, 2-2. That one started off over Soto's head, Jeff, not at the letters. Curve low, 3-2. Tries the Maddux sinker back to the inside corner, but misses inside about 6 inches, ball 4.
Judge up, nan on first, 1 out. Don't like batting Judge and Stanton back to back, will set up at least 1 GIDP

Why does it seem like every starter the Yanks bring to the majors lacks the command of the strike zone needed to pitch well in the majors? A rhetorical question, I suppose. The Rays don't seem to have this trouble; neither do the Mariners. It's annoying because the talent is there with guys like Gil.

Misses a slider on the outside corner, 0-1 Slider well low and away, 1-1 Look for it outside and step in and go to the Porch, Aaron. Cutter low/away, 2-1. Splitter dives over the middle from outside thigh high, 2-2 Can go splitter or slider here.

So many foul balls, but Gil has a 1-2-3 inning. Palacios walked. How did I miss that.

Big breaking curve finishes well outside but waist high, Judge chases and fouls it. Curve well low and away, 3-2 I'd expect a splitter going low over home here.

Judge up there guessing as he takes a fastball for strike 3.

That fastball was NOT right down the middle, Kay, not close.
That FB works, because it's thrown from the same release point and to the same location as the sliders going outside, and Judge is looking for that because he hasn't come close on it lately, and the pitch sequencing freezes him into taking it on the outside corner. K. 2 down.
Stanton down 1-2 on his count.

I was a Lakers fan as a kid. My favorite player was the Logo. Don't watch the NBA game anymore because it's unrecognizable to me. Can someone explain what a charge and a block is? Don't think the refs understand. You'll fit right in here. Pipps, rizzuto, and others used to be big basketball fans but the modern game doesn't appeal to them anymore. I love playing basketball more than watching it, but after my ACL tear, I gave it up. The current NBA is just a three point contest, to me it's not entertaining at all.

Stanton ducks a high curve not close to him, 2-2. Curve outside and low, 3-2 At least they're getting Gil some rest here. But no one even making a loud out. Slider is outside 2-3 inches, so despite the holding it there by the catcher, the ump calls it correctly as ball 4.
1st and 2nd, 2 down for Rizzo.
