Cutter inside to Baez, thigh high, 1-0 FB up and in but in the zone, but he's jammed and hits a sky high pop behind the mound, everyone makes a move for it, but Torres calls everyone off, staggers late but catches on the backhand, 1 down.

Cutter in a bad spot, waist high, just inside middle, Ibanez puts a good move on it but just misses under, flies out to Verdugo in medium deep left to end the inning.
Bottom 3, 2-0 Yanks. A much needed 6 pitch 1-2-3 inning for Nestor, he's at 44 pitches through 3.
Soto, Judge and Stanton for the Yanks in the 3rd.

Moving over to the NL:
In the NL East, the Phillies tremendous surge continues. They've now won 4 in a row, 8 of 9 and 15 of 18, climbing to an MLB best 12 games over, and taking over 1st from the Braves, who lost 4 of 5 this week to fall into 2nd, 9 games over and 1 1/2 back of the Phils. The Mets' continue to play so-so ball, going 2-3, dropping 1 under .500. They're already 5 games behind the Braves and 6 1/2 behind the Phils. They've also allowed the Nats to catch them for 3rd. Washington is 3-3 this week and are also 1 game under. The Marlins continue to sink like a rock in water. They've lost 2 in a row 9 out of 11, and traded their best player, Luis Arraez, to the Padres for three prospects and international free agent signee Woo Suk-Go (from the Korean league), effectively throwing in the towel on the season with 5 months to go. At 9-26, the Marlins have the 3rd worst record in MLB, are 8 behind the Mets and Nats, 13 behind the Braves and already 14 1/2 out of 1st. They're on pace to lose 120 games.

Slider starts at Soto breaks into the inside corner waist high, 0-1 Same pitch at the top, also freezes him 0-2 Slider on the low outside corner, but he gets the Soto-call, and it's 1-2. Change low, 2-2 Don't stare and don't argue, Soto, not only was that 98 FB on the corner waist high for the >|, but you should have been struck out two pitches before. 1 down.

FB gets a piece of the inside corner up in the zone, 0-1 on Judge Hanging Slider up in the zone near middle, Judge misses, fouls it back, 0-2 FB at the top at 98, Judge starts, tries to check, but the 1st base ump says he swung, K, 2 down The bat went passed home, so I think it was a strike. K, 2 down.

Change low, 1-0 on Stanton FB on the inside corner up in the zone, 1-1 Curve drops into the top of the zone, 1-2 Gets another two strike change just below the zone, and because of lost bat speed, he has to start early facing a possible 98 mph FB, so he chases for the K. Inning over.
Skubal strikes out Soto Judge and Stanton on just 12 pitches and is at 50 through 3.
Top 4, 2-0 Yanks
Vierling, Canha and Greene for the Tigers in the 4th.

Looks like the ump is evening up for all the good calls on balls called strikes for Nestor in the 1st 3 innings.
Cutter in the zone down and in, Rogers gets under it to medium deep center, Judge goes back a few steps, catches, inning over.
Bottom 4, 2-0 Yanks. 15 pitches for Nestor in the 4th, 59 through 4.

Seems it doesn't take much to offend umps. Their ego is a mile wide. Question them at your peril.
