In the NL Central, the Brewers went 3-3 this week. They're in 1st, 8 games over .500. The Cubs are 2-3 this week, and are now a full game behind the Brewers. The Reds had a bad week, going 1-4. They're now 1 game under, 3 1/2 back of the Cubs and 4 1/2 out of 1st. The Cards slide bac this week, going 2-3. . They're a game behind the Reds, 4 1/2 back of the Cubs and 5 1/2 out of first. They still managed to climb out of the basement because the Pirates had a worse week, going 1-4 to fall into the cellar. They're now 6-17 after and 11-2 start, 1/2 back of the Cards, 1 1/2 behind the Reds, 5 behind the Cubs and trail the Brewers by 6.. They're still waiting for the boost pitching uberprospect Paul Skenes will give them when they finally call him up after he can no long achieve "Super Two" service time status.

Ground crew puts drying agent on the mound between innings, the rain isn't that heavy, but it is steady.

Seems it doesn't take much to offend umps. Their ego is a mile wide. It's been a disgrace this season. Something needs to be done.

Curve low to Torres, 1-0 Change in the zone down and in, taken, 11-1 sinker drops into the top of the zone strike 2. Torres doesn't like it, but it WAS a strike. ARRRRGGGG FB down the middle middle and Torres misses, fouling it back Change in a hittable spot, just inside middle, but the big swing is late and under again, and he pops to Torkelson at 1st. 2 down.

FB above the waist outer 3rd, taken, 0-1 FB up in the zone, swung under 0-2. Change in the middle, knee high, fouled off 2nd change over the middle, about 3-4 inches below the last one, chased and swung over, inning over.
2nd straight 1-2-3 for Skubal, this one with 2 K's. 13 pitches and 63 through 4.
Top 5, 2-0 Yanks Torkelson, Keith and Baez for the Tigers in the 5th.

Wrapping up the Standings for this week:
In the NL West the Dodgers continue to live up to their pre-season billing, taking 4 of 5 this week, and opening up a decent gap on the rest of the teams out West. They've now won 10 of 12 and are 9 games over. The Padres fell back to .500 by going 2-4 and trail the Dodgers by 4 1/2. They're hoping the boost Arraez provides them isn't temporary. In his first game for the Pads, Arraez went 4 for 6 and scored two runs in their demolishing of the D'backs, 13-1. The Giants dropped 4 of 5 this week, falling 4 games under .500, and are now 2 behind the Padres and 6 1/2 out of 1st. Arizona has lost 3 in a row and 7 of 9. They're now 6 games under, a game behind the Giants, 3 behind the Padres and 7 1/2 behind the Dodgers. The Rockies are now percentage points behind the Marlins for the worst record in the NL, just a game better than the White Sox. They've lost 6 of 7 and 15 of 19, are 5 1/2 behind the D'backs, 6 1/2 behind the Giants, 8 1/2 behind the Padres and are already 13 games out of 1st. They're on pace to lose 123 games in 2024.

Baez takes a meatball, a FB just inside middle, waist high, for a strike FB about 3-4 inches high, taken, 1-1 FB inside corner, he's late and under, fouls it off to the right. Bounces a no chance change well outside, and even Baez won't chase that, 2-2 Waist high FB on the outer 3rd, he's late and under again, fouls it off. Does a decent job of timing the cutter thigh high inside corner, inside-outs a Fliner toward the corner in right, but Soto gets over and catches it near the track, inning over.
Bottom 5, 2-0 Yanks 12 pitch 1-2-3 for Nestor, and 71 through 5.
Trevino, Cabrera and back to the top as Volpe gets his 3rd look at Skubal.
