Fouls off a sinker well low Then a 97 Sinker well high, Swung at 3 balls here, Yanks will need luck to get it to Soto. FB up and in makes him limbo back, 1-2 I'd like to say let it hit you, but you can't with that pitch Slider misses way up and away, and again, Volpe stepping in the bucket early, 2-2 FB above the inside corner, spoiled, still 2-2

Singleton is a much better athlete than he looks. Quick feet and good hands. Turned out to be a game saving play.

Beat him clean with a FB about 2 inches high. Volpe swings under, K, game over. Sigh. Too bad. Wrong approach, Volpe. Swung at at least 5 pitches out of the zone. A walk there gets Soto a swing.
Ah, well.
Yanks fall short, lose 4-3, don't get the series sweep, the season's series sweep and the homestand sweep. Fall back to 11 over at 25-14 and fall out of the 1st place tie with the O's.
Yanks lose 1/2 game to the entire division. 1/2 back of the O's, 5 ahead of the Sox, 5 1/2 ahead of the Rays, and 7 ahead of the Jays.

Yanks go to Tampa for a 3 game series starting tomorrow evening...
1st game vs. the Rays is 6:50 pm on YES; Clarke Schmidt tries for his 4th win in 6 starts, he'll be opposed by Taj Bradley, the former uberprospect righty for the Rays. He's making his 3rd start after time on the IL with a pectoral injury, in the first two, he's been brilliant, allowing just a solo HR and 1 other hit in 11 innings, with a K/BB of 15 to 3.
2nd game is 4:10 Saturday afternoon also on YES: Nestor Cortes looking for his 4th good start in his last 5 games. He's opposed by ex-Yankee farmhand Zack Littell, he's 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 7 starts and a 42/5 K/BB ratio good for 5th best in the AL so far this season.
3rd game is 1:40 Sunday afternoon, also on YES; Hard-throwing Luis Gil looks to go 6 or more innings for his 3rd straight start. He's opposed by kitchen sink righty Tyler Alexander, who's had three mediocre starts in a row since facing the Yanks last month, not getting hit all that hard, but pitching just 4 innings in each start.
After that series, the Yanks have a day off Monday before going into Minnesota to face a Twins team that has been hot lately. Yanks pass the 1/4 pole on the season in Saturday's game. It does go fast, doesn't it? Especially if the team is playing (mostly) winning ball.

22 for Joe, 24 for Phil and Joe's son Lance got 4 MLB seasons. Thanks, I for forgot about Lance. Strictly speaking, Lance is a son, not a brother, but I thought I'd mention him anyway. Rangers kill off a Canes' PP, Panarin gets a headman pass for a breakaway, but waits too long and his backhand goes off the back of the net behind the post. Then the Canes are called for a penalty after that play, but they're having a lot o trouble setting up. Canes kill it off, and the Rangers are now 0-3 on the PP. Still 1-0 Canes' 13:18 left in the 2nd. And that will do it for me for tonight, because I've finished checking my notifications. I'm going to make dinner while I watch the Rangers games. See you guys tomorrow evening for the 1st game in Tampa. Good night to all of you. Bye.

On a happy note, NY Rangers won in OT...I'm a happy camper! 3rd game in a row they made us suffer late, but a win is a win. One more and then they face the real test, as they probably go up against a very very tough defensive team in the Florida Panthers.
